What a crap service you get from thename.co.uk. Trying to transfer your domain away from them is so frustrating. The process involves so much red tape, a load of form filling, and no action from them. What should take seconds to accomplish with any other domain registrar, is virtually impossible with thename.co.uk. I'm still waiting for MY domain. These people are like pirates holding your domain hostage. Stay away from them! They should be reported to the domain criminal investigation services (if such exists!)
A shocking domain registrar who throw up costs and red tape for domain transfers - expect you to fax them credit card details (inc security code) to pay for it and have about 4 different 4 forms to get through. This should be free!Stay away!
Thename.co.uk provide a wonderfully personal service in a world where real people are becoming less and less used in the drive to lower prices. But Kevin and his staff manage to do both - they are cheap and friendly, and will talk you through what you need on the free phone line or by e-mail, rather than leaving you to wade through acres of small print on a big bulk registerer. On a technical note, they will give you 10MB of webspace, plus a .com *and* .co.uk domain name for about £65 a year, a price which is competitive and includes unlimitted e-mail aliases and 10 POP3 mailboxes, plus the usual CGI/SSI and Front Page stuff. I can't tell you much about speeds or reliability, but I have used them on several occasions and had no problems at all. In all, this seems a perfect solution for the small business starting out on the web, and their service and quality means that they are also great for more established or demanding clients. If you want a more tailored service, or are new to the game and still want a professional result, then go to Thename - the Saville Row of the domain name registration world, but without the price premium.
