theonion.comNewest Review: ... or current affairs ("New Hampshire Passes Law Forcing Old People To Watch Gays Marry"). My favourite article of all time has to be "Research Suggests Someone Totally Doing It Somewhere Right Now" (I urge you to take a look). There's also a raft of other articles, such as horroscopes, comment and local. In fact, it's just like a real paper. The Onion has also branched out into clothing and gifts and has a decent range available from their online shop, although I looked into gettong things posted to the UK and the postage is pretty high. That said, a lot of the Onion's books are available through Amazon, but unfortu... more |

The Onion is a satirical American newspaper that has been around for years (I first dicovered it with some friends whilst at uni in the 90s). I'm not certain, but I think it's available in the US in hardcopy format, you might even be able to get it here in the UK. The paper/ website specialises in making the normal news absurd, whether it's the election of Barak Obama ("Black Man Given Nation's Worst Job"), science ("Archaeologists Discover World's First Guy Named Marty") or current affairs ("New Hampshire Passes Law Forcing Old People To Watch Gays Marry"). My favourite article of all time has to be "Research Suggests ... Read the complete review

The Onion is a satirical weekly American rag available on the web. Subtitled 'America's finest news source', it is surprisingly funny. To give you some idea of how it deals with otherwise taboo subjects, it is enough to tell you that the post September 11th edition was titled "Holy F&%&*$g S%@t!" The subversive nature of the publication throws political correctness out of the window, giving a broad range of subjects a huge blast from the hip in a wonderfully witty, tongue in cheek way that I do not necessarily expect in an American publication. The Onion splits up into various sections, some of which work better than others. ... Read the complete review

Not for the easily offended! The Onion.com provides an alternative look at recent events and news. Produced by Americans, it manages to take a self-examining and critical view of the States – a rare breath of fresh air. The recent problems in the States obviously get a great deal of attention and the commentary is mainly intelligent although is often very, very offensive. The online paper does sometimes over step the margin, but even to someone who is quite easily offended like myself – it’s mainly right on target. The layout is nothing remarkable, but is clean and crisp and easy to navigate. The archives are a great resource for ... Read the complete review

The Onion is fast becoming my favourite newspaper. Granted it doesn't have 'Striker' - muddy Mildred! or charming ladies on page three but it does have bitingly funny satirical articles in abundance. The news they report often mirrors present day events with my title being taken from their September 11th edition. The current edition still focuses largely on the war but in a more irreverent fashion with 'All profits no longer going to charity' one of the headlines. This article suggests companies are now working for themselves with "A notice on packages of Fruit of the Loom men's cotton briefs reads, "All proceeds will go ... Read the complete review

When I was first sent to this site, I thought it'd be another of those semi-funny sites that have nothing to do other than write silly articles. Boy was a I wrong! TheOnion is a news site with a difference! They have news articles on practically every subject, from current affairs (the attacks on america & afghanistan) to news about Nike and Coca-Cola. There's facilities to send articles to your friends (I guarantee you'll use this!), and archives of the best bits from past issues. Check out the What Would You Do each week for great responses to serious questions, and be sure to take a look at some of the Consumer News archives. ... Read the complete review
