The Onion is fast becoming my favourite newspaper. Granted it doesn't have 'Striker' - muddy Mildred! or charming ladies on page three but it does have bitingly funny satirical articles in abundance.

The news they report often mirrors present day events with my title being taken from their September 11th edition. The current edition still focuses largely on the war but in a more irreverent fashion with 'All profits no longer going to charity' one of the headlines. This article suggests companies are now working for themselves with "A notice on packages of Fruit of the Loom men's cotton briefs reads, "All proceeds will go directly into the fourth-quarter earnings of Fruit of the Loom, Ltd."" Being a typical quote.

In addition to the news they also have many lifestyle articles which often feature sad men."Children, creepy middle-aged weirdoes swept up in Harry Potter craze" being one easy target. The articles are all written in a reporter's style and illustrated with photos of the relevant individuals. The pieces are, I assume, all made up although "Dressing you dog as Boba Fett for Halloween" was a bit too close to home!

They also feature a lot of tales from office life such as "Man required to wear tie decides it might as well be wacky" and "Employee of the month sad it's already the 19th". The articles can be hit and miss but there are so many that you never fail to find something to raise a titter. There are a number of regular correspondents each with a different style. One writes as a bad ass rapper whereas my favourite, Larry Groznic is a sci-fi nerd who hopes to impress a girl with his Holy Grail quotes.

Another rich seam of humour is the Internet. Tales of unironic porn watching and ill-fated e-Bay purchases litter the annals. I particularly liked and empathized with "You've ruined my perfect e-Bay feedback rating!" O
ther winners for me were "Everything in the world now collectable" and a sad tale of a man who couldn't work out the self-service salad bar protocol.

To be critical the site is very American and many of the references go way over my head. Most of it though is universally funny and a book mark essential. The site is easy to navigate with extensive archives of past tales. The ads are down to the minimum and no pop-ups interfere with your fun. Give it a look you won't be disappointed, not with "Gender of person in Ronald McDonald costume unclear" anyway!
