Newest Review: ... section and loving every minute of it. The Register is essentially a Tech/IT/Gadgetry website, perfect for those who need to keep on the cutting edge of new technology and software, but it's written with such a tongue in cheek attitude it's hard not to fall in love with it, with or without a savvy technological mind. Each section, from Music and Media to Hardware makes the site exceptionally easy to navigate, and depending on which sector you work in/wish to read about - You'll easily find what you're looking for. The Odds and Sods section is the black sheep however, often losing the IT angle to bring you a collection of bizarre stories ... more

I spent so much time reading The Register when I was supposed to be working it was untrue. I remember spending an entire three hours catching up on the Odds And Sods section and loving every minute of it. Premium Review Great Tech news site. (202 words)

For anyone involved in the IT or tech industries this site is a must read. It has a frontpage full of the latest news stories, reviews and articles. Each one has a headline and a tag line which is often enough to grab your interest and make you click through to see the story. There is a strong UK slant to the news, however it does also focus on international issues. The articles themselves are generally well written and include the feature for users to leave comments. One of my favourite parts of the site is the reviews of new hardware. These are generally thorough tests of new kit with good benchmarking and comparisons with similar models. These often ...  Read the complete review

The Register! A favourite site of mine if there ever was. Being heavily in to my computers, well, Macintoshes, anyway, this site is almost more frequented by me than these opinion pages, along with another fine e-publication, Macworld.co.uk. For those not in the know, The Reg, is an IT news site that prides itself in 'Biting the hand that feeds it'. They also pride themselves in being completely insane, mocking, Microsoft-bashing and the occasional BT-bashing. Like many news sites it's split up in to various areas: * Front Page - all the newest news from all the categories slung together to create a wish-wash of IT news. * Software - pretty ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A Good read (103 words)

TheRegister is an excellent service with some interesting insights into the British computer comunity. BOFH is a majoy plus to this site as it shows how us techies really deal with the 'muggles'. I have found a number of links on this site that have proved to be interesting and or useful, especially the W2KSP2 link before it was announced. I have found this site to be accurate in what it reports despite the 'tabloid' label. it is not afraid of looking at the funny side of the story. Basically a good site and well worth a visit. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review theregister.co.uk: Cynics ahoy! (348 words)
by - written on 01/08/01 (Very useful, 54 readings)
Rating:

The Register is an anomaly in that it's a British IT news site, but not too formal with it. The Register has often been compared to a tabloid newspaper, but that's a little unkind. Although the reports are written in an informal manner (using plenty of UK slang), they're generally well researched and up to date. The writers are a pretty cynical bunch, treating pretty much everyone with disdain at times. Once the Register's decided it doesn't like something or someone, they tend to stick with it. So once the Register decided it didn't like Steve Gibson's hype (see my op of grc.com for more), for example, it's run several ...  Read the complete review
