Advantages: funny
Disadvantages: it's still news
I never thought there could be a fun way of bringing news to people but the register mangages to do this. With it's use of witty headlines, stories and the odd news story which doesn't seem to get posted anywhere else, the register seems to have got the blend just right. The site itself is easy to navigate and has all the main news on the first page you see. The design is made to have the feel of a newspaper with your starting on the front page, which includes about 50 stories. The site is then split into separate sections. These include Software, servers, storage etc, which allows a user to choose the exact news story they want to see without any problems. The register though doesn't stop there. Along with the chance to buy Register merchindise the site also allows for quick and easy research, job searches and now it's very own ISP. The site is constantly expanding with new sections opening all the time when the technology becomes the norm. These include sections just for broadband and for the Mac, whilst also allowing the user to have their say through the letters page. The site doesn't let you forget it's their either, with it's daily dose of news sent direct to your mail box it means you'll just have to keep coming back again and again. And why not ? If you need to be kept up-to-date with news from the internet then from my personnal view there aren't to many places better.
