I have been using the Trainline website for some time now. You have to register if you want to buy tickets but not if you just want to find timetable and price information. After you have registered, the Trainline will email you with special offers from time to time.

It is a fairly user friendly website that is easy on the eye. It does tend to cut out mid transaction quite often. Sometimes you cannot get back to the part of the site you want and using the back button gets rid of the information you have already typed in.

The main advantage of the site, is that you can find really cheap train tickets from the comfort of your own home. On the site, they will tell you a little secret, that sometimes, two single tickets is much cheaper than a return ticket! When you select your journey using standard radio buttons you will clearly see the price of the journey, you will also be offered an option to check if two singles are cheaper for your specific journey.

It is important to note that the cheaper tickets are limited availability so it is best to try and get the tickets as far in advance as you possibly can. Follow the standard check- out procedure. When you have bought your ticket you can pick it up from the machine at the train station just before you travel.

I have saved up to £70 per trip (Wolverhampton - Plymouth). It is well worth the effort.
