Advantages: If you know you are travelling a long way into the future you may save a pound

Disadvantages: I find it impossible to get a cheaper ticket than one id get in the station

As one of the recent advertisements for the Trainline asks "are you still paying full price for you ticket at the station" well i answer yes i am as i have never in my life managed to get a deal on the trainline.com. Its claim that "you could be one of the people who get a advanced ticket and save up to 39%" cant be fictitious but im yet to get 1% let alone this mysterious 39% they are talking about.

The Website is easy to use, you add in your starting place your destination a date and time you want to leave and it brings up the best available options. You then get to chose prices and fares. This takes you to the next screen and it will give you the normal prices for off peak, on peak, first class returns etc, but at the top of the screen in big bold lettering and bright colours is the sign saying 2 singles could be cheaper, now this is were i assume most people get their 39% but as i sit here trying to book a ticket for 3 weeks time for a trip from Leicester to London there is no cheaper way than the off peak return in fact its more expensive to get the singles so im foiled again.

I know that if you book 1 month to 2 months in advance you do see a small change in the price but i believe it is minimal and because your traveling times are then totally determined on the ticket you bought so far in advance then this sometimes isn't worthwhile in my opinion.

The website does have offers and you can book your hotel and weekend brakes and they are quite reasonable but overall i find this website a huge disapointment
