I'm not a fan of thetrainline.com. This is purely and simply for one reason: the extra charges. Lets start from the beginning though. The website itself is fairly standard and I don't think has really changed in the last 5 years or so! On the left hand side of the page is a quick timetable from where you insert your travel details and ... Read the complete review

Errors do happen, and I can appreciate that, but now and then you will come across a company that gives out no apology nor displays willingness to rectify their faults. Thetrainline is one such company. My story: I tried to purchase a ticket but got Payment Declined error messages each time; however, there was nothing wrong with my card. No ... Until very recently (when National Express East Coast launched their new website, with the very functional and attractive mixing desk booking engine) thetrainline.com had a monopoly on selling National Rail tickets. Thankfully times have changed, and I'm no longer obliged to use this clunky and increasingly unnecessary site. The ... Read the complete review

A BIG warning. When something goes wrong like your tickets don't come or the fast service machine doesn't give you the tickets that you paid for you'll find that you cant speak to anyone apart from a call center in India. You have a big challenge on to do anything about it. I only received the tickets for the return part of my journey and had to ... Read the complete review

Occasionally I have to travel by train for work, and rather than queue up for tickets on the day of travelling, someone recommended thetrainline.com to me so I thought I would give it a go! Before writing this review, I was just scouring some of the very negative reviews written about the trainline previously and I'm wondering if they have ... Read the complete review

There useless. I paid a month in advance, no tickets came. I rang the day before - was told they were faxed to the station - arrived at station no fax!! No tickets. Rang again faxed again - no fax. Rang again with fax number - to be told automated system cannot change the number. I paid £54 for my original tickets and had to buy another set on the day £133. They are giving me the run around - ignoring letters e-mails. thetrainline.com should be shut down. Station master said this happens regularly with this company. Good way of scamming people - not giving customers tickets. The amount it takes in time and useless phone calls that we are paying for is criminal.

Yeah..I have had the same problem as many of you. Ordered tickets 7 weeks ahead of travelling. They didn't arrive. I phoned them a week before departure but they said they had "special arrangements" for getting tickets to a station if you rang the day before. This isn't true in my case...I contacted them and got to the station..and no ... Read the complete review

In this day in age when Google can find information from all over the world in milliseconds how come it takes so long to get train info? And what if i want to change a bit of journey info? right back to the beginning. Try finding the cheapest train home for Christmas for an evening of fun...

Despite the fact that this website has, in the past, charged me for tickets I didnt want, I attempted to buy some tickets for a return trip from London to Cardiff. The website froze and I received no indication that the payment had been taken and looking on My Account screen, there was no record of me making any bookings with you in the ... Rip Off £2.50 credit card fee - SO expensive!!! Buy your ticket from your local train site, and you get the IDENTICAL interface, and don't pay the rip off credit card fee! Avoid them until they stop ripping us off!

As if it isn't enough that the British trainsystem is the laughing stock of Europe, this website clearly tops the cake! Inefficient, unreliable, totally customer-unfriendly AND TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST! Tried to book a single fare from UK to Germany but only a return was allowed. This costs more than the single I booked through ... Read the complete review

I ordered an advance purchase ticket from Edinburgh to Leeds on 20th July (travel date 18th August), but their faulty website "lost" my order. My debit card was charged, but the order did not appear in my trainline account, and they denied all knowledge of having received the original order or my payment. When I contacted the ... Awful awful customer support. I tried to travel to Ascot, due to flooding the trains wern't running. I then went through the whole refund process. Be prepared to deal with automated responses (or clearly scripted), ignorance of questions asked, internal process blaming and sending you in circles. I started the refund ... Absolutely horrendous trying to get a refund out of these monkeys! I had to cancel a booking and was advised to apply for a refund online (booked a Fast Ticket). They said I would get refund in 10 days - nothing, then 21 days - nothing, then 4 weeks - nothing. During this time I was phoning customer services who are based in India (grrrr!) and ... Below is a copy of a letter I sent to the Trainline. I have found their customer service to be absolutely appalling from start to finish (the reason I am requesting a refund is that I paid for tickets that then never appeared ... and then had to enter into huge negotiations with them to get them to agree to giving me a refund!). I would strongly ... Read the complete review

Unimaginably bad. Of all the web sites I use for online purchases, theatre tickets, airlines and banking, thetrainline.com is without doubt the worst. It’s true, they’ll reserve me a ticket, and it will be at a good price. But the shear effort, and tenacity that I have to show to get to that point is beyond belief. I canot ... I will not be using trainline again. I booked tickets for my teenage daughter to travel back from London to Bristol. The website did not ask me which of the 2 stations in Bristol I required (as other websites do) and consequently I have booked the wrong tickets and have the inconvenience of picking her up from a different station. Also I thought ... Read the complete review

I have been using thetrainline for quite a while since I work in another city and travel frequently during weekend. But as it introduced charging fees for credit card booking, I switched to virgin.
