thetrainline.com: The (Great) Trainline Robbery (101 words)
by Alan - written on 20/11/06

Does anyone know what the Trainline refund policy is? Why does their call centre confirm that my first 2 requests had been refunded and then change the story to say that they had no access to refund data and that I need to check my bank statements? Why am I being told to go to a station that I did not travel from to pick up ...  Read the complete review

I've had an awful experience (by default ) with the trainline.com. Booking four single tickets through the Scotrail website the first two went through OK. The second (return) pair were booked with the same date, but because of having to refresh the screen twice the date box reverted to today's date without any warning. Result - the return tickets ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on thetrainline.com

Possibly one of my favourite websites.

It is simple and easy to use. Most of the time it is accurate.

Thumbs up - worth using as a general schedule checking tool and when you need to buy a ticket.

Trainline.com is a real con (97 words)

trainline.con is a real con, you can get exactly the same tickets from virgintrains.co.uk but you don't have to pay a £1.50 credit card charge, also to cancel / refund a ticket booked through virgin's site costs £5 but the same would set you back £10 on trainline.con. trainline.con is a real con, you can get exactly the same tickets from ...  Read the complete review

thetrainline.com: Trainline.com problems (139 words)

I bought a ticket with thetrainline.com and then discovered the event I was travelling to was moved to another day. Annoyingly, I was not allowed to change the ticket. I wrote and e-mailed and phoned the company, either for a change of ticket or at least a decent explanation to their policy but none was forthcoming. (I thought this ...  Read the complete review

I attempted to buy tickets on trainline.com and towards the end of the process was told that I would have to collect tickets from another station - 20 miles away! I aborted the order and received no confirmation of anything via e-mail. 2 weeks later I noticed that they had debited my credit card with £76! I called them and they said they had no ...  Read the complete review

I had a bad experince with the train line, booked a ticket which never arrived and was told to book onther one and they will refund for the first one. This was end of Feb 07 and now it's end July. Called lots of times, wrote emails but no reply. They are just not interested. I suggest people who had the same bad experince ...  Read the complete review

Tried to book a sleeper train from Edinburgh to London on this, but the website doesn't handle the cabin allocations at all. Fair enough, since it's apparently just a front end to the same system every other train company uses, and none of them do it either. So I sent them an email asking how to do it. Never got a reply. Then I tried ...  Read the complete review

Myself, friend and kids booked a weeks camping holiday to Windsor. We decided to go to Legoland one day, have a day in Windsor and have a day in London. Our children had 2 weeks off school and i thought i'd better pre book the Windsor Eton Riverside tickets to London Waterloo on-line. Many times a user, until now.............no more. Tickets were not delivered by 'Signed for mail'via a Royal Mail postman. I travel from London to Swansea and back every weekend and therefore am a regular customer for them. As others have found, Trainline's after sales service can be poor. Given the cost of UK train tickets along with the complexity of the fares structure, if you make a mistake you can be stuck with an expensive white elephant. It is a service that should be quick and convenient but take a lot of care if you decide to use it. Make sure that the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Simple to Buy, Absolutely Horrible Experience Afterwards (562 words)

I completely agree with all the horrible reviews that are on here. I just got done with a huge fiasco of a trip. I booked through Wessex Trains, but afterwards I found out they just use Trainline to do the booking. I was able to buy my ticket fine, and booked 1.5 weeks early, leaving plenty of time for my ticket to be mailed. However, a ...  Read the complete review

I ordered 2 rail tickets and 2 London Underground tickets from thetrainline.com. They arrived OK but 1 of the tube tickets was for the wrong date. One of the typically bad UK train experiences. Apart from the highest fares in Europe(and some of the most lousy trains if compared with Germany,France,Spain) The Trianline is the ultimate in crap service. The ticket cost me 5 pounds(!!) to be delivered,as many stations, even big ones like Poole,Bournemouth and Southampton do not have ...  Read the complete review

My local station (and two which were not quite so local) had no one to help me at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. National Rail Enquires were as helpful as a poke in the eye, so basically I had no choice. I write this opinion a bit sadly, as I've always enjoyed using this website. I've used it for about 3 years now, and used to be very impressed with the user-friendly screens and flexible options it offered. For the past few months though, I have been a little bit frustrated with it. I tend to book about 6-8 weeks ahead, so you can ...  Read the complete review
