Advantages: makes the most of the net
Disadvantages: none
This category of review doesn't explain clearly what it means, but for me there are a few points I would like to make. My advice would mainly be on which search engine to use, as I STILL see so many people using rubbish ones, and also a quick bit of advice on internet safety, so here goes!
When it comes to search engines, you just can't beat Google.com. Indexing and searching more sites than any other search engine (literally billions), google always finds more relevant pages than any other engine out there: it's that simple. If you're searching for something on the web, use google.com as your search engine (that could be the end of the review right there!)
At times I've tried other search engines, perhaps if they're the home-page engine at work or at a friend's house, but time and time again I cannot find what I'm looking for, and so switch back to google, knowing it's waiting like a faithful friend to take me where I want to go.
As well as being a 'stronger' search engine, google also has a ton of excellent features:
Google News - my first site to hit each day, it contains up to date news from around the world, sub-divided into sections (e.g. entertainment) for easy access.
Google Maps - You never need to buy a map again! Google maps is an accurate map of the whole world - phenomenal! Plan routes, or just find where you live for fun, it has an array of useful features.
Google shopping - searches stores for you. I've never used it before looking at it today for this review, but it seems just as good as Kelkoo and other sites that do this.
Googlemail - Launched in 2004, you can set up your own email account and there's unlimited space, so you never, ever have to delete any emails.
Everything on Google is free - they make their money through paid advertising, so it's a win win for the user.
In terms of internet safety, a word of warning for the beginner: if you are required to give sensitive information over the net, such as your bank details, look at the address bar. If it starts with https (and it's the 'S' that is important there), then it means it is secure site, and you can give your information without fear. If it doesn't have the 'S' in it, it means anyone could be watching, and so don't do it!
So there you have it - my advice for surfing.
Summary: do it
