Advantages: Lots of useful info
Disadvantages: Lots of useless info, too much advertising
With the advent of the internet it has become possible to research all sorts of information at the click of the mouse. While the internet is an extremely useful tool, too much information can be counter productive. For this reason one has to learn how to surf the internet efficiently.
The first a most important rule is, you want the internet to give you information that you require. When you find yourself surfing onto a page that you didn't originally intend to visit, ask yourself if the information is of any benefit. If not close the webpage immediately and move on. Time is far too precious.
Surfing the internet is thought to be fee, however this is far from the truth, all information on the internet comes with a price, this means distracting advertising. Even highly rated websites such as google will prioritize advertising in the search results rather than the actual information that was requested.
Try and avoid websites with too much advertising, use advertising blocking software. There are different ways of blocking advertising. One way is by blocking certain ip ranges into the routers IP address. It may be slightly difficult to set up for the average user however being able to check my webmail without an annoying advertising banner is quite refreshing.
Also try to avoid visiting news websites, news websites contain news reports that may be interesting but have little benefit to one's personal life. Everything on the news covers completely unrelated events. If you are going to visit a news site, limit your access to 5 minutes a day. Since avoiding such websites my productivity and efficiency has improved ten fold.
Another tip, while dooyoo may be addictive, it is a consumer website, a means to sell and promote products. Although it does help one make a informed buying decision, spending years in front of the computer discussing consumer products could be harmful to one's personal development.
I would also recommend using a web browser such as Firefox. Firefox includes plug-in that automatically block unwanted scripts and java pop ups.
The final piece of advice I would give, surfing the net to carrying out a task that one sets out to do in beginning requires a lot of self discipline. Try not to get distracted by unnecessary links and advertising. In this age, there's a lot of information out there however most of it is junk and of little benefit.
