Advantages: Makes items cheaper
Disadvantages: none
I only recently discovered these cashback sites after buying stuff on the internet for years. After much deliberation I decided that I would sign up with topcashback (TCB). I was going to go with Quidco but I heard some negative things about it so decided that I'd go TCB.
The whole point of a cashback site is that each time you make a purchase, you go through their website and they will give you a certain amount back either as a percentage of your item of they will give you a fixed fee. The good thing about these sites is that most of the shops people buy in are already there so you can buy a DVD from Play.com and receive money back thus making the whole item cheaper. This is very much like the Nectar E-Stores except you get money back instead of Nectar points.
Signing up was very easy. Just fill in a few details about yourself and so on and you're good to go! Finding a shop is very easy aswell. All you need to do is to do a search for the shop and click through their link and buy as you would normally. From what I hear they used to have a £5 admin fee that would be deducted from your earnings as part of an admin fee but they have got rid of this now so what you see is what you get.
Now onto the important bit. How much do you actually get? Well, I think, they are surprisingly generous. Don't get me wrong, you're more likely to get 5% cashback than 50% but this is still quite good. I often find that retailers pay around 5% which I am generally quite happy with. What I like is when they give you fixed amounts. For example, I recently bought a new 02 simplicity sim card through TCB. For this I was given £23.33 cashback which paid for my first month. Not bad really!
There are also loads of "No Purchase Offers." These are, essentially, money for nothing. With these you are often required to register with a website, or get an insurance quote or enter a prize draw rather than buy anything. These tend to pay quite well; I got a quid for getting a car insurance quote. You can also get places like Kelkoo who will give you a few pennies to search for something on their site. Its not a lot but every little helps.
Payout is available anytime as long as you have a payable balance. Once you buy something it has to go through 3 stages. The first is called "pending." This is a record of your visit to the site and like a provisional amount. This is then confirmed with the website and moved to the "Confirmed" section. After a while this then moves to the "payable" section and you can claim anytime.
The only bad thing I can think of is that sometimes they do not track your purchase but if this happens all you need to do is to submit a form to say you have not been given cashback and they will track it and give it to you.
I can honestly say I have never had any problems with TCB. Ok the website isn't the most beautiful thing but it is easy to use and seems to work well. The only problem I find is actually remembering to use it!
Summary: Can only be good!
