Advantages: Large range
Disadvantages: Cheap looking end product
Whilst browsing the internet for a backing track and not having much luck I stumbled across Trackfish.com a website offering a fair range of backing tracks produced in-house.
Upon entering the website you are greeted with a basic website with an information page about the company. On the left hand side there is a menu where you can search by normal means for your track or browse by artist initials and genre.
The site is easy to navigate and easy to conclude whether they have what you need or not allowing a quick decision with minimum time wasted.
Once you have found the backing track you are after you can choose to have it with or without backing. Also you may be able to sample it although not all tracks have this option. This is another good way to allow an informed purchasing desicion enabling you to buy with confidence.
The site also offers a request section within which you can ask them for anything not in their catalogue and they will custom produce it in around 2-3 weeks. Customization of existing tracks such as different backing instruments etc are also available and cost £20 plus the cost of the track and postage.
Upon ordering the item you are offered several means of acquiring your
track. One is an MP3 file which is sent to you by e-mail, CD is another option and Minidisc is another. No matter which option you choose it is £8 + £2.50 postage on Minidisc and CD purchases.
I personally ordered a CD which came in 2 working days after payment which i was impressed with. Upon opening the envelope it was posted in i was greeted with a CD-R in a plain plastic CD case with no inserts, and simply with Trackfish.com written on with a marker along with an item number. I was kind of expecting a printed CD at least. However i don't feel i can complain to much, as other companies on the internet and high street seem to ask anywhere from £12 - £20+ for backing tracks.
The quality of the CD was very good however and seems to have been profesionally produced with good sound quality, and identical to the sound sample I listened to on the website.
Overall a great website offering great service with a good product range i feel that the end product itself could be better just "less cheap looking". This is the only reason I'm not giving five stars and would still recommend this site to anybody looking for backing tracks.
Summary: Good Website, would definately recommended
