Advantages: customer service was polite
Disadvantages: misleading, undermined people's intelligence
They mislead customers.. here is my story:
My wife and I have booked a holiday (Flight+Hotel) from Travel-Republic from London Stansead to Rome from 16-18 June 2012. I used a holiday comparison site and I chose Travel Republic as the price on a particular Flight+Hotel was more attractive. After we purchased the holiday, I was expecting to receive an email confirming our holiday but I only received a confirmation for the hotel. We emailed them and the replied next day stating that the price of the flight has gone up by almost £70 and they needed our confirmation to go ahead. I called them and also wrote to them that I booked a Flight+Hotel and the price should stay the same and not gone up. They said that they use separate references and they only could booked the hotel and not the flight. I stated that for me it has been one agreement and one purchase not two different purchases. After a long discussion, the next day they emailed and said they were willing to cover have of the extra (£35) and we should pay £35. I stated to them that this still was unfair and I want to cancel the whole holiday, but they said the hotel charge (£153) was non refundable at all and I would loose all money. I wrote to them and politely gave them 2 choices: "
1: Refund me the charge debited from my card so I cancel all this holiday.
2 If they don't refund me, then unwillingly I go ahead with this holiday, and as per their last email, they will cover half of the extra cost (34.28). Still I will report this to appropriate bodies.
Story short, they canceled the flight and I thought they were going to refund me all. Then the next day I received an email that the hotel is nonrefundable and hence, they will not pay me back. I called them and I told them that they do not even stick to their own promise, and they replied that they already refunded me (£1 for flight cancellation!!!!!). Well, what can I say?
Here I am. To be honest, I was not concerned about the extra £70. The reason I wanted to pursue this was because I think their system is unfair, and they put people in a situation with almost no choice but to pay them extra and I am sure many people do. They obviously undermined my intelligence and from what I have seen in the forums, they have done many similar things to other people.
