Advantages: Loads of travellers reviews
Disadvantages: Need to sift the info
Tripadvisor is a great site when it comes to planning a holiday or if you want to check up on the place you have just booked to get some reviews from actual travellers rather than just the hotels or destination wn advertising blurb.
The site relies upon reviews frrom the members hence it has a community feel to it and there are opportunities to research lots of information on places located all around the globe.
I find the site really easy to navigate around and tend to use the world atlas as a starting point to narrow things down initially however the search enhgine is also very good. I have found that some of the articles are written by people writing in their second langauge and as such the content can be a little hard to read but to me the plusses of having a variety of opinions and the chance to read the views of someone who has been to the place and is able to give an honest account of the location is the most important and you have to be grateful that they have taken the time and effort to share their opinions.
In particular I use the site as an accompanionment to the travel books that I usually buy especially as some of the content will be more upto date than the books, for example the site was receiving new content shortly after the tsunami hit Asia and this information would have been invaluable for anyone planning a trip in the months after the disaster where as the travel books were of less value.
Overall one of the best travel sites around and well worth a visit.
Summary: Great travel site
