Advantages: simple layout and idea/promote stuff

Disadvantages: not alot you can actually do on the site

Twitter is another one of those social networking sites like facebook and myspace. The main difference with twitter is that it is very simple and doesn't contain any applications, complicated and changing profile layouts, games etc. Infact the only thing you have to do is update your status which asks the question : what are you doing?

This question is to be answered in 140 characters and is referred to as a tweet. Each time you update , your new update will appear on your followers home pages. Your followers are people who keep up to date with what you are doing. To become a follower of some one on the site you can either search for their user name , first name and/or last name.

The site has a simple easy to use design and layout with just a few links at the top to navigate the different pages, find people and sign out when you are done.

A number of famous people use twitter. One of the most popular is British comedian Stephen Fry. Others include Britney Spears and Ashton Kutcher aparently. I am also following Andy Murray on there but I don't know if it's actually him doing all the updates but hes got aover 62,000 followers so far. Not much compared to Stephen Fry who has over 620,000 ten times as many.

Anyway to the actual site itself and whether I think it's any good. I think it is quite interesting to see what people are doing including some celebs but Facebook does this and probably alot more. It has instead of what are you doing? , What's on your mind? . I have a twitter account but I don't think many of my friends actually do whereas virtually everyone I know has a facebook account. Twitter has grown alot though since it was created in 2006 and will probably grow more still. It will definately help having celebrities on board but I am not overly impressed with it and it does have quite a few spammers. I have a blog which I can use to advertise to some of my followers and I have made quite a few followers because of this-Have around 38 now ( a few which are spammers I think). I don't really use it alot and not as much as facebook. So overall it is alright but not really that great.

Summary: good social networking site but not great!
