I've been using Twitter since November 2008 and I absolutely love it! I've never really been a fan of social networking sites to any great extent, but Twitter is an exception. To get started, you just choose a username (which can be changed at a later date) and password, then you're ready to start tweeting! The unique idea behind Twitter is that you can only "tweet" a statement of 140 characters or less at a time - and your tweet is supposed to answer the question "What are you doing?". This is sometimes referred to as "micro blogging" because it's a short version of writing a blog post! You might think that it's difficult to network and communicate 140 characters at a time, but it's actually not! As well as "this is what I'm doing now" type statements, there are also lots of interactive conversations between users but because the tweets are so short, it's fast and dynamic and leaves you absolutely hooked! You can use Twitter direct on the website, or you can download applications like Tweetdeck which are desktop applications to control your Twitter account. Something I always find interesting on Twitter is the "trending topics", which are the word or phrases being tweeted about the most at any given time. It's sometimes where I first hear news breaking!
