Advantages: @replies, general ramblings, celebirty stalking (in a good way)

Disadvantages: Addictive, overall it is pointless

Twitter is frankly a completely pointless exercise. You update your status with what you are doing or have recently done, and unless you have a large group of followers, it will seem like no one cares. This is Twitter's beauty however. Knowing that your thoughts are floating around out there, just waiting to be replied to, trying to be interesting enough to gain enough followers. It can be an addictive exercise. I even managed to get a tweet from Mike Skinner and Keisha Buchanan

You leave your status, wait to see if you recieve any @replies, where people leave a status that replies to what you have said, or you can send direct messages privately to one user. All of these are limited to 140 characters, so I would recommend a short user name so people can say more to you.

The website is actually very helpful these days, many breaking news stories are reported on there, setlists from gigs are told and general communication is strong if you can build up your followers.

Still yet to truly explode, many seem to be waiting for it to implode, but Twitter seems to be going from strength to strength.

Summary: A good waste of time.

I only update it which my Facebook status updates through the Facebook Twitter app. I mostly use it as a follower of, for instance, Stephen Fry, Eddie Izzard, Robyn, The Hoosiers, dooyoo...
