Tabs are used instead of standard musical notation as an easier way to how to play songs on guitar. They show 6 lines representing guitar strings, and numbers on the lines to represent what fret to place your finger on. This is much easier than working out the note on standard written music, and translating that to the guitar. I learnt to play guitar by reading tabs and playing songs that I found on Ultimate Guitar. The site allows you to search for an artist or particular song and usually has many different versions of a particular song, each having been uploaded by a different person. The site usually has tabs for guitar and bass, aswell as just chords which show the lyrics and chords above them. The site also has lessons which help teach basic guitar as well as new techniques to more proffesional guitarists.

When looking at a tab, the page can be set to automatically scroll down, this is very usefull as it means you dont have to stop playing to school down the page and see the rest of the song. It can however not work when you have to scroll back up to see the chorus of a song, which is often only written once. The is also a link on the tab page so you can hear the original version of the song whilst you are learning to play it, which is very useful.

The fact that tabs can be supplied by anybody mean that some can be unrealiable and do not show how the song should be played.

Overall, this is a very good site, and one of the best for tabs that I have ever used. It is great for a guitarist of all abilities and is a great way to learn to play the guitar as long as you stick to easy songs and tabs.

Summary: The only site I use for tabs
