Advantages: Fun, Fast, You might win money
Disadvantages: Server slowdowns, Server crashes, Sometimes you've no one to play with
A couple of weeks ago I had a very empty weekend. No money, nowhere to go, central heating broken down. Desperately needing to take my mind off how cold I was, I visited uproar.co.uk to see what the games I’d read about on ciao so much were all about. I’ve never played online games before and expected to be bored stiff. Instead, I’ve become very attached to this site and am in serious danger of being addicted. Plus, I played on the Sunday and got an email on the Monday telling me I’d won some cash!!! That was it. The seed was sewn and I’ve been at it all alone in my room every night since. The Site: You’ve probably heard of uproar through their uproarlotto free daily lottery site. You’ve probably been taken to uproar.co.uk games after you’ve played the lottery and clicked a banner to confirm your entry. If so, you’ll know that it looks good, loads fast, is laid out clearly and is easy to navigate and understand. The Games: There are loads of games on uproar.co.uk, so I’ll tell you about my fave four: CATCHPHRASE Yes, the corny old gameshow itself. Basically you play against up to 3 other players and win prize draw entries for either winning the entire game, guessing the ‘super catchphrase’ or getting across the board at the end. It’s fun and you have to be quick. There is a weekly prize of 50 quid. FAMILY FORTUNES Yes, the corny old gameshow itself. You play against up to 6 other players and win prize draw entries by being the winner of your group and guessing the top answers in the final quickfire round. Very often you end up playing this one by yourself, meaning that even if you do crap you’re guaranteed a prize draw entry for being the winner in your group! (But having no one to try to beat is rather boring). Again it’s quick and fun, and there’s another weekly prize of
50 quid. TO TELL THE TRUTH You play against up to 4 other players. You’re told to pretend to be somebody famous (I’ve been Robin Hood, Debussy, Cher, Charles Dickens and F. Scott Fitzgerald to name but a few). Amongst you is the ‘real’ person. You win prize draw entries for guessing the ‘real’ person, and also for each time other players think the real person is you. This is my favourite game and can be great fun. It’s also very useful for honing your lying skills. The only downside to this one is that the weekly prize is only a tenner. WORDOX This is like Scrabble but not quite, and it’s one you can’t play by yourself. You win points by ‘stealing’ the other players’ words as well as making your own. There are some very cunning and intelligent players out there, and unlike the other games this one really does test your abilities and mental agility. There’s no prize but it doesn’t matter with this game – you play it for the brain workout, not the chance of a prize. With all games – and there are many more than I’ve mentioned - you can chat whilst playing if you’re that way inclined. There are problems – sometimes the server is slow and your answers don’t reach it in time, other times you get disconnected (usually when you’re winning). But most of the time the site performs very well. You need to be registered to play, but it’s a very simple process that can be done from the home page. Uproar.co.uk has some brilliant games to while away those boring hours when you really haven’t anything to do, and you could just win a bit of cash into the bargain. See you there.
