Advantages: interesting, improving all the time

One of the problems of many of the book review sites on the internet is that it's often hard to home in on what it is you're looking for. There are no such problems with Black Star Review. Every review is categorised and indexed, with subjects including: Science, Politics, Biographies, Fiction, Erotica, Sexuality, Music, Video and more. If you still can't find what you want there's always a search book nearby to help.

Each review is pretty much stand alone, and they range from a few paragraphs to essays. I'll admit I've an interest here: you'll see an overlap between some of my dooyoo reviews (not all) and some on Black Star. There's a couple of other dooyooers who also contribute, as well as other writers.

If there's a bias in the site it is definitely towards books, music and video are included, but the bulk of the reviews are on books. A lot of the reviews are of current books, but occasionally something older gets a look-in.

The site gets updated once every couple of months, so it pays to re-visit or join the mailing list.

If there's a failing it's in the visuals. This is a site that is geared to text, which makes for fast downloads but not a very multi-media experience.
