Advantages: Good cameras, good speed, ability to make contacts

Disadvantages: Has been absolutely hopeless during the first weeks of 2008

I have been a longtime user of Webcamnow and was delighted when they presented the new Beta version. Sadly, for the last two weeks (I'm writing on January 10), the servers which Webcamnow uses have been down more often than they have been working. This morning I have spent two full hours attempting to link up to Webcamnow, and without any results -- it just keeps reconnecting again and again and again and again and again and again. It seems that this is yet another case in the wonderful world of the Internet in which a company has followed Microsoft's rule: Release a new product first and then see whether it works or not. Users will find out, users will let you know, so we don't have to worry about it. I'm a big fan of Webcamnow and am distressed about this situation. Like another reviewer, I have made good friends through the process, and I would hate to think that it has collapsed completely.

Summary: Hoping for massive improvements.

I too have used wcn for some time, first the Video Chat 4 and then the beta. The VC4 now freezes up and has other problems. With all the beta versions I get the repeated "Connection to server closed" and "Connection to server failed" messages that you describe. Since I am in the USA and you are apparently in Europe, Iwould guess that these problems are not related to our locations. Nor are the problems caused by any of our home computers. Your comment about wcn following the "Microsoft rule" is probably true. They seem to be putting most of their development effort into cosmetics and not the fundamental operation of their site.
WCN does not seem to have provided any "Contact Us" information - not a big surprise! Although I'm a "friendly and appreciative customer" I'm not sure that wcn really gives a damn about us. I've put many comments to wcn about "disconnects" in the lobby page of the beta but got no reply. As a final but probably futile gesture I have cancelled my Speedster.
Thanks for your comments!
