What is Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is defined as an educational project and they have an .org ending to their website, as to reinforce the fact that they are not a business venture. The idea behind this project is to allow everyone to contribute to an ever growing enciclopedia by posting our content. If you are looking for information, you will be able to use the search engine and find information on what you want.
Does it really work?
It does work, in terms of robustness of the website, I never had any problem accessing it. The real question is whether it is safe to trust the information on this website. There has been a lot of debate. Those who work at Wikipedia are supposed to filter the content and assess whether it is appropriate. However, in reality they cannot make miracles and the truth of the matter is that there have been situations where material had to be removed from the website.
How to use it?
I think that the best way is to start from the search engine, just type the word you are interested in, and then start reading and from there you will find links to other material which may be of interest to you.
For those who speak another language that English, there is also the possibility of navigating the website in a different language, there is an option "language" and you can select your own language.
Conclusion.
Yes, it is free, but do not take all the material posted on Wikipedia at face value.
Summary: free to use, but questionable
