After years (Windows 95 to Windows ME) of doing this, you'd think they'd've wised up.), as there was no surface scan or files on the hard drive. Next the Setup checked the validity of a non-existent Registry. I was then whisked away to the wonderful graphics of Windows (Setup). After about 2.5 minutes of initializing setup I'm presented with the Windows setup screens: Select the components you want, then click Next. Here's the infamous Config 4: Typical, Portabl... more

Windows ME: Windows Means Evil Everywhere you turn, people are saying ?Windows ME is the worst OS Microsoft EVER made!?, ?It's worse than 95!?, and ?I'd rather use DOS, which ME hid not too cleverly?. Why all the negative press? What's so bad about it? This is my journey into ME; the quest to find out WHY is ME so BAD? Installing Windows ME The ME CD, fresh out of it's case, is a statement about Microsoft and the pirates. When Windows 95 shipped, Microsoft was just beginning to feel the prick of piracy that would become a thorn in their side to the present day. The 95 CD had a holographic ring, right near the hole for the CD ...  Read the complete review

when we bought our new system (packard bell xtreme) it came with the ME edition of windows so after booting it all and getting going. How ever after only a few short hours we had to restart the computer at least three times with only just logging onto the net and opening norton antivirus! i know im not a computer genius but even i know that is not meant to happen. I have had windows me for a long time now and don't tend to consider an upgrade to xp. Windows Me seems to be stable(dosn't crash often) and have many of the advanced functions that come with windows xp such as system restore and an enormous amount of plug-in-and-play drivers. If you don't seem keen on buying xp (due to bugs etc) get windows me. I have a 1.3ghz 640mb ram computer which does help, Windows me is not for slower computers, i would personally recomend 500mhz+. I used to have it on a 400mhz and it couldnt cope and ran very slow. I have actually managed, without damaging the os to replace the motherboard in the computer without ...  Read the complete review

Windows ME: Windows Millennium Edition (597 words)

Microsoft's Windows Millennium Edition (a.k.a. Windows Me) is the company's third update to Windows 98. In a few months, you'll actually be able to buy a copy, and in a few months, you probably won't be able to buy a new home PC without it. But despite the brouhaha, it turns out that Millennium only adds up to about Windows 98 3/4--it offers the same customizable user profiles as Windows 95 and only a few upgrades from Windows 98. And, despite promises of greater speed and stability, tests found that Windows Millennium was, in some cases, actually slower than its predecessor. In fact, anyone who needs under-the-hood business features (robust ...  Read the complete review
