shopandscan.com is an online market research company who are reviewing the items that households around the company purchase.

You can sign up to the service for free and must be sent an invitation which may be obtained by contacting the company direct or perhaps by seeing a banner or asking a friend to refer you. Once signed up you will receive the barcode scanner (clicker) and the lead to connect this up to your computer.

It is quite a simple concept really in that you will go and purchase your shopping and then when you return you will just scan a card to advise which member of the household did the shop and then as you unpack your shopping you will just scan in the barcodes of the items or scan the cards provided for items without barcodes such as loose bakery products or loose fruit and vegetables. The scanner is very simple you just direct it towards a barcode and press the + button, a red light will appear and once successfully scanned you will hear a short noise.

For being a member you will be rewarded with points which can be used for miscellaneous rewards such as Argos Vouchers, Luncheon Vouchers etc and this is very useful for something that takes just a couple of minutes per week. The amount of points you earn is dependant on how often you participate and how often you upload your information to the website.

Once a week you will be expected to transmit your barcodes from your scanner to the website and this is done by using a USB lead or a Serial Port lead depending on what type of computer that you have (A PC is required).

Overall the whole service is very easy to use and the customer service support is very helpful. If there are any problems with the equipment then they are very prompt to issue replacements and the weekly points are always updated on time on the following Monday. Rewards are prompt and never seen to take longer than 2 weeks and overall I will rate the whole service 5/5 as I can't find any faults. It's a few free vouchers a year just for something that takes minutes a week and I highly recommend it!
