yahoo! groups (formerly egroups.com)Newest Review: ... I am still a member. The thing that makes a good group, like that, for me is occasional thought-provoking questions, my own contributions when I've felt inspirational being along the lines of bloopers or characters I liked over time, and dedication from some of the members. Although I've only found this kind of thing for DS9, I'm sure similar groups exist for Red Dwarf, Stargate ... more |

I found out about Yahoo! Groups (I'll lose the excalamation mark from now on, or my sentences'll look really confused, like that word "sentences'll" just then) when looking for any kind of bulletin board related to some of my favourite sci-fi programmes, and found it to be a very large and interesting place. Although I did not find groups to accomodate everything I would like to talk about in a 'daily digest,' my preferred form of receiving group e-mails, I did find a group related to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, one of my favourite shows which I find greatly surpasses the other Trek series like Voyager and Enterprise, and I am still ... A long, long time ago, on a server far, far away, there was a service called OneList. Available at http://www.onelist.com, people could sign up for various mailing lists. (I would hope that if you’re reading this, you know what a mailing list. If you don’t, I’ll explain later.) This site was eventually acquired by another similar service by the name of EGroups, and this was good. There were now many lists available on one site. Then, along came Yahoo! Wanting to expand the services they offered, they acquired EGroups and called it Yahoo! Groups. It was similar to their clubs, but it was still good, especially if you were using your Yahoo! Mail ... As a long-time user of what used to be called eGroups, I have nothing good to say about the service since Yahoo! took over. I manage a relatively large mailing-list via Yahoo! Back in the days of eGroups, it was a genuinely easy and free method of managing a newsletter mailing-list or discussion group. Right now, I have for some time been unable to add new members to the group. Why? The site diverts to a 404 error page. So - naturally, we contact Yahoo! to report the error. This in itself is easier said than done - locating a help/contact e-mail address for Yahoo Groups requires a galant trek. However, once found, the effort is not rewarded. No reply was ... "I LIKE SEX" "HOT VIRGINS ARE MY SCENE" "YOU UNITED SCUM SHOULD BE BRUTALLY MAIMED" Oh dear, dave27 has gone absolutely mental and is trying to offend as many minorities (yes, United fans are still in the minority) as possible in the space of three lines, what's he on? Well, actually it ain't me, and if you've spent even five minutes in the shadowy world of Internet chat forums, you'll doubtless identify the above witty repartee as being fairly typical of the intellectual stimulation and challenge which awaits your pleasure when you log into this sort of program. Like them or not, ... Read the complete review

I only found out about yahoo groups through the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) they have several groups all for different purposes. When I joined the NCT coffee yahoo group (a virtual coffee morning!), I thought to myself these groups are great. Then I found myself looking for other groups to join and found thousands of groups already set up. I especially looked around for groups for TV programmes and soaps! I couldn't find the exact one I wanted to join, so joined loads whilst learning all about these groups. Then I set up my own group its very easy all you have to do is fill in a few details and think of a name and a description and of ... Read the complete review
