Advantages: Pays well on the rare occasion that you get a survey to do.

Disadvantages: Not enough surveys available.

I've been a member of Yougov for almost two and a half years. When I joined I did not belong to any survey or review sites and it seemed a good way to earn a few pennies in my spare time. Having read about Yougov in a Sunday newspaper, I decided to join. The signing up procedure was very straightforward and initially I enjoyed receiving emails to alert me to surveys I could participate in. These surveys arrived every couple of weeks and the payment was quite good at 50p or even £1 a time. The surveys were often about government policies, health, crime, education and the kind of topics that affect all of us. There would also be a weekly prize draw and the winner would get £25 paid into their Yougov account. With Yougov you have to reach £50 in your account before you can claim your payment, and to begin with I was progressing quite well towards this target. I was optimistic that I'd reach £50 within the year.

Well, I didn't reach the target in the first year or even the second. My account has been hovering at around £40 for the last few months as the rate surveys become available has ground to a virtual halt. The prize draw surveys have also become infrequent. I began to think I might just be in a group of people whose opinions were not required at that particular time, but recently I have read other reviews by members who have had the same experience as me. I feel very frustrated that Yougov owe me £40 but I am not getting new surveys to complete so I can't get that last £10 I need to claim what they promised me. Sometimes I get an email telling me there's a survey for me to complete, but when I log in I find it's a survey I have already filled in so obviously I cannot do it twice. I really want to give up on the Yougov site altogether, but I won't do so until I make the £50, even if it takes me a few more years!

Some people enjoy surveys as a means of giving their opinions on various subjects, but if that applies to you then I wouldn't recommend Yougov as their surveys are now so infrequent. Look for a better way to make your views known if that's what appeals to you. I used to like hearing on the news or seeing in the press that figures they quoted were from a Yougov survey. I used to wonder whether it was one of the surveys I had contributed to. But now they just don't seem to care what I think any more (snivel...).

There are some other sections of Yougov that I've never bothered much with, e.g. letters, blogs, and you can look up results of previous surveys. You can refer friends and earn extra for their participation in surveys (if they get any). But all in all I have to say that unfortunately I would not advise anyone to join Yougov.

Summary: Participating in Yougov has become a waste of time. Not recommended.
