Advantages: Short and interesting surveys.

Disadvantages: Very few and far between.

I am now a member of many survey sites and I am starting to learn that some are ok and I have received money and vouchers off a few of the survey sites, for example Lightspeed and IPSOS. However some of them seem to have very high payout thresholds and it feels like I will never receive anything for my time, YouGov.com is one of these sites.

In fairness I have only been a member of YouGov.com since the end of July. I joined as I thought the surveys might be a little more interesting than some of the consumer survey sites, when I did join though I was unaware that you have to earn £50 before you can get paid.

YouGov.com is as easy to join as any of the other sites with just a few questions to answer. You get 100 points just for registering. They work on a points system rather than pounds, 100 is equivalent to £1 and you need 5000 points before you cash out (£50). The only way you can receive your money is from a cheque which you have to request.

Once you are a member you will get invited to surveys via email. There will be a link in the email that will automatically connect you to the survey. If you don't do this then they will normally send you a reminder a few days later.

The surveys are relatively short which is good, there is nothing worse than spending 30 minutes plus answering a survey about one item. The surveys are also more interesting and are usually political based and news based. It is great to be asked your opinion on important matters, I enjoy these surveys probably more than on any other site.

In the last three months of being a member I have completed 7 surveys, 2 of them paid 75 points and the other 5 were for 50 points. So you don't really get many surveys per month and they usually don't pay very well but at least they are short and don't really take up much of your time.

I now have 500 points in my account so only another 4500 to go. I just read in somebody else's review that it took them 18 months to get paid and I reckon it will probably take me that long. Once I've started something though I like to see it through to the end so I will probably keep doing these surveys until I reach £50.

I think YouGov.com is a good website in that they provide you with short interesting surveys. Unfortunately they don't send you enough and they aren't rewarded with enough money, it's a shame you can't cash out before £50 but when I eventually get my cheque I' sure I'll be glad I joined.

Summary: Roll on 18 months time for pay day!
