YouTube is a web site that I am sure most of you will have heard of, but to summarise, this web site provides a hub for you to watch and share videos online. The site has recently been bought by megapowers Google and if you are not careful, www.youtube.com could be responsible for you losing many hours in a day through shear enjoyment of the things you can see and the fact that you can literally see anything you want on there, with the odd exception for things like copyright reasons. YouTube has been responsible for many a headache for me as I struggle to pull myself away from it. It is very much like a Pringle in the fact that once you pop, or start watching in this case, it is very difficult to stop. My particular favourite thing to watch at the moment is the endless clips of top comedian Michael McIntyre. YouTube gives you the power to basically watch what you want when you want it.

The website itself is really well laid out and everything is really clear and easy to find. The search box has never been more effective than with YouTube. You get predictive typing in there if your browser settings allow it and you can literally type anything in and chances are there will be a video of it. If copyright comes into play then in all likelihood the video will either not play or will be removed quickly. The buffering of the videos is not an issue these days as super fast broadband speeds are now the norm and this alleviates any pausing when watching.

I love the fact that when you watch something, the site will suggest a play list to you with other uploads of a similar nature. This is very clever and if I use Michael McIntrye clips as an example, when choosing Live at the Apollo, YouTube suggested watching his Royal Variety performance too and some of his appearances on shows like Mock the Week and 8 Out of 10 Cats. It is very clever and effective stuff.

YouTube is expanding all the time and various new modes are coming in to play and things like channels are already here, but I can't comment on those because I have simply used the site for watching videos. Equally, I cannot comment on the upload process because I haven't done that either, but I can well imagine it will be simple to do and very clear as that would be greatly in keeping with the rest of the site.

Uploading is something I will look to do in the future when I get a camcorder or see something particularly interesting that isn't on there, so I will update this review at that time.
