Advantages: Almost unlimited resource of videos
Disadvantages: Swearing in comments
YouTube is about as famous as... well everyone knows what it is or has heard the name, even those who do not even use a computer. It is the most popular website around and is pretty much the only resource to upload video for the whole world to see.
YouTube has grown and grown into something so massive, it's unreal. Now owned by the internet search giant Google, it has grown from strength to strength primarily earning income from advertising and affiliating with major companies who pay to post their promotional video. The reason for YouTube's growth is mainly down to its viewers and uploaders which help to further expand the site.
So what makes YouTube so addictive and so great? It's quite simple, with a pretty much unlimited resource of videos from movie trailers to vlogs (video blogs) and funny vids it is clear that YouTube is the best place to go to kill time or find out things. YouTube can be funny and educational depending on the videos. Many of the videos YouTube hosts have had some bad press including things such as 'Happy Slapping' (not quite so happy), which was combated pretty quickly via the 'flag' system and monitoring of new video uploads.
The downsides... As with anything, YouTube has its bad points such as swearing in comments etc... and the site seems to attract many people who take things way too seriously and tend to 'bitch' about each other in the comments.
Overall though YouTube is great and is here to stay, for good.
Summary: A great way to waste time
