Advantages: Free, fun, entertaining, good for aspiring artists, quite addictive
Disadvantages: None
I discovered Youtube.com a few years ago and ever since then i have to admit that i have become pretty addicted to it. If i want to listen to a certain artist, a lot of the time instead of looking for the cd i will just look for their video on Youtube.
The good thing about this is that not only will i get to hear the song but i can watch the video too.
If you have never heard of Youtube, it is an online video sharing website which allows users to share, watch and upload videos.
A number of signed musical artists became famous from uploading videos of themselves singing on the website.
Marie Digby is probably one of my favourite Youtube artists as she has such a beautiful melodic voice and is very talented.
Users can also make their own videos to accompany an artists song. I have actually made a few videos myself using Windows Movie Maker and had great fun doing it.
Youtube is free to use and you can even "subscribe" to your favourite users or artists videos.
You can also create your own profile and have a list of friends. Youtube is very user friendly, bright, eyecatching and easy to navigate. Youtube was created by three former Paypal employees in 2005 and since then has grown massively in popularity.
I have sat sometimes for full days on Youtube just listening to music and rating videos. Each video has a star system where you can rate it out of five stars and give other users an indication as to how good a video is.
Comments can also be posted on videos and the user can reply to these if they wish.
I think Youtube is brilliant for aspiring artists, singers and bands and will really give them some presence among the public if they are good. I recommend Youtube to all music lovers as it is brilliant!
Summary: Check it out
