What did you do before there was YouTube?

I truly wonder sometimes what I did before YouTube, when I wanted to look up a song or a trailer of a movie or television show. It's so easy these days and I even created my own playlists for songs for the moment I come home. Sometimes not even so much for the video's but just for the songs itself, because you can find anything in YouTube.

Can you believe that YouTube has been only created 5 years ago in 2005 by three former PayPal employees? And only one year later Google bought for more than one billion dollar. If I only come up with an idea like that! The first time I encountered YouTube a few years ago looking for this old song that I liked and normally you can really find them anywhere that easy, but this time YouTube had it even with its old video! I was simply hooked.

Well YouTube is much more than just a place where you can look up old song and trailers. You can see it as an online video library combined with a community. You can find almost every video that you can think of but also people can start a blog, posting their own videos. You can become friends with people, meet people online and send comments to each other videos. You can also just simply make a playlist with your favourite videos. What I also love about YouTube is that you can post a video and not make it public. You can select a few people that can watch the video or just simply yourself! I did that with a lot of my videos that I had on my computer and for me it's like a back-up system with the convenience I can watch whenever and wherever I am!

Are there any negatives? Yes. I use YouTube mainly to watch music videos and now lately YouTube has lost a lawsuit with a big music company and they are not allowed to some the videos in certain countries. So if you are looking for a music video of Lady Gaga or the Black Eyed Peas, you won't succeed on YouTube anymore. This is a real shame. For the artist that isn't with Vevo you can still watch their videos and become a follower.

YouTube is very easy to use and the search option is very easy to find the video that you are looking for. If you want to post your own videos you have to sign up, which is just a simple short procedure and when you finish you can already upload your own videos and become friends with other people. If you never tried YouTube I would definitely recommend it and try to find one of your old favourites videos!
