Youtube is inaccesible from my workplace, the site is blocked by the company's administrators based in Germany and there's little we can do to sweeten them, the christmas gift of raw herring by post didn't seem to do the trick.
Life without youtube is frankly rather difficult these days and when there's no work to be done, I always look for something entertaining on the web - going to hang out in sub zero temperatures soon gets a little dull.
Our first solution to our superior's unhealthy demands was using the proxy satyaboutique.com but the problem with that is that many of the videos cut off half way through and you need to close adverts which pop up at the beginning. Then one day whilst browsing, one of my colleagues came across youtubecn.com - the site looks identical to youtube and loads content from youtube, it is in fact a Chinese immitation.
Immitating goods and services is something the Chinese are best at, they set up youtubecn and goojje (a play on google) which bear significant resemblance to the originals as a means of combatting censorship, youtube is banned in China and google wanted to leave due to censorship problems, these are the resulting sites.
Tudou and Youku are still preferred video sites in China but Youtubecn.com certainly does the job when you want to access Youtube and it's banned. I'm sure I'm not the only person on dooyoo who has this issue at work, so use youtubecn and may your work days be more interesting now!
