“ YTMND, an acronym for "You're The Man Now, Dog!", is a website community that centers around the creation of YTMNDs, which are pages featuring a juxtaposition of a single image, optionally animated or tiled, along with large zooming text and a looping sound file. YTMND is also the general term used to describe any such site. „
YTMND stands for 'You're the man now dog', and is the name of a strange and rather original comedy website that specialises in the outlandish and the surreal. The site's content consists of simple combinations of looped audio samples of music or soundbites alongside images with messages written in large, bold text overlaid on top, these disparate aspects coming together to create some very bizarre experiences indeed.
All the site's content is completely user-generated, and as such constantly updated and incredibly random, meaning that the site can be hugely addictive as you never know what bizarre presentation the next click will lead to. Specific themes do emerge however, leading to the creation of some very funny and surreal internet memes.
The downside of the vast amount of content is that there is no quality control to speak of, although the site gets around this problem by offering top ten lists of items ranked by number of views and ratings given. The content is often very witty and intelligent, not to mention bombastic, garish and dementedly repetitive, but be warned that more than half an hour of this stuff at a time is more than likely to send you bonkers. Its also worth pointing out that some of the content is adult oriented, with swearing and themes of sex and violence, making this one for over 18s only.
A surreal and entertaining site then, just try not to get too addicted or you will likely go insane.
I first encountered YTMND (Your The Man Now Dog) at my friends house. At first I was a little confused into what it was all about and what the point of it was. It didn't take me very long to realize that there isn't really a point to this website and it isn't really about anything.
The website is based around members of the site, creating web pages that are designed to be funny and amusing in some way. They are all based around the same thing. Usually it will be a picture or a gif. which will be looped along side a looped piece of audio with some text in the middle. It is quite hard to explain so you have to check it out yourself. However, a lot of the jokes can be "in jokes" that people who aren't members of the site may not understand.
Overall, I think Your The Man Now Dog is a fun little site that many people can enjoy. Warning however, some content to can be for more mature eyes.
YTMND (You're the man now dog) is an online community site, in which members are encouraged to create, rate, vote for and sponsor user-made web sites, the design of which is very simple. First, the user must upload a picture of his choosing, sometimes a still, sometimes an animated gif of what is usually a film, TV or pop-culture reference, then add sound, which will be put on a constant loop in the background, and finally, add some massive unmissable text in the centre.
The picture is usually an absurd juxtapostiton of image, sound and text, which should ideally gel together perfectly. Some examples include:
An animated Gif file of Batman speaking, played forward and backward very quickly so it looks like he is lip-syncing to the gibberish El Mudo song, Maccaron Chacaron on a loop, with the text "uaeleuealeaueale!" dominating what is left of the screen.
A picture of Milton from the film Office Space, with a photoshopped image of a huge red stapler, loud audio from the film with the dialogue "I BELIEVE YOU HAVE MY STAPLER" and text reading the same.
A photograph of an open-mouthed William Shatner, with the sound clip from Star Trek "KHAN!" with massive zooming text reading "KHAN!"
and of course the classic picture of Sean Connery pointing at a camera, with his line from the movie Finding Forester "You're the man now dog!" and the accompanying audio saying the same line over and over again.
The content of YTMND is self-perpetuating, people often imitating and creating their own takes on the online "Fads" this site generates. Frequent subjects of YTMND lampoonings include The Church of Scientology, Ebaumsworld.com, Lazytown, Captain Picard, Myspace, Warcraft and Ducktales. These are largely either satyrical or outright surreal.
These meme-machine sites really mess with your head, and the juxtapositions, in-jokes, non-sequitors and absurdities they entail often reduce people to fits of uncontrollable laughter.
YTMND often generates internet memes, and mega-popular phenomena with massive amounts of hits. The site is very well-controlled, administrated and regulated. It is completely safe with no spyware or illegal content, although a lot of the sites are very rude and controversial. 18+!
Sadly, because anyone can upload a YTMND page, there is no quality control at all. This is rectified however with the site's outstandingly accessible layout, that has sections such as "Most Popular YTMNDs," "Random YTMNDs" "Recently Created YTMNDS" "Top Rated Today YTMNDS" etc.
Its one of those sites that you really have to see to get an idea of. This is very much the stuff of a Net-humour subculture, akin to 4chan.com Icanhazcheezburger.com, and Pictureisunrelated.com.
Here are some of my favourite Work-safe YTMNDS. Rest assured that all sites here are utterly free of spyware, malware or any other malicious content.
You dont need to register and the sites load very quickly.
