Advantages: Free Games
Disadvantages: The price for subscription or to pay for the games
In the winter months I spend a lot of my time on the internet and I always play games that don't take much effort to play but always seem to help me relax.
There are a few websites that you can get free games but for years I've always stuck with www.zylom.co.uk. Registration is quick and easy with only having to put in a few details about yourself as well choosing a username and password.
There are a few choices on playing games on this site. You can play them for free which is what I do, the only thing about doing this is it takes a a minute or so for the game to load and you get advertisements on the screen while you wait.
As well as this you don't get to access all levels on the games which can be annoying. Most games can last a couple of hours if you're playing well so I don't mind not being able to access all levels.
The second choice is paying for a fun pass. The price varies for this;
One-month FunPass for £19.95
Three-month FunPass for £13.25 per month
One-year FunPass for £6.95 per month
Two-year FunPass for £6.65 per month
This is in my view extremely expensive for the games you get. I don't think many of the games are worth paying that much for but if I was to choose an option it would be the 1 year pass as it's a lot cheaper and doesn't tie you in for too long.
The advantages of your subscription include;
no advertisements
access to all game levels
no time limit
play full-screen - with you're free games they only come up in a small box which doesn't even cover half your computer screen, which can be annoying but you also get used to it.
With these to options you do get a lot of games to choose from including action, word, puzzle, card, board, Mahjong games and many more. This site really can keep you occupied for hours.
When you play this you also get to see if your score makes it onto the leaderoard which comes up when you finish the game or if you lose and your game is over. There is also a button so you can check the scores throughout your game. I do this sometimes when I've been playing well but getting bored and think I want to finish the game. If i'm the highest scorer of the hour I will go ahead and end my game or play on if i'm not even near other high scorers.
On the page with highest scorers there is two tables. One tells you the highest scores of the hour and the other tells you the highest score from the week. I will admit I have never managed to be one of the highest of the week and I think this could be because I don't get to play all levels as I don't have the fun-pass. Or it may just be that i'm not very good!!
The other two options are games you can download. Once you find a game you might want to play you can try it. This will then download onto your computer and you can play it for half an hour free of charge. You can then delete it of your computer if you've had enough of the game or you can go onto the last option.
The last option is to download the game at a charge. The prices for each game vary most are either priced at £19.95 or £29.95. For me I find this too expensive for these games but if you really enjoy one game you might decide it's worth it. I would also say that I have come across many of these games in shops for £6.95 for the disc so you should really shop about before you go ahead with your purchase
It also states on the download page that you can pay these games free of charge if you have a fun pass subscription so that is probably the better option so you have more choice in what you want to play.
Games I enjoy playing are text express 2 which is a word game. You have 6 letters at the bottom of the screen in bits of coal and you have to make as many words with these letters as you can and get to the end before the computer. At the top there are two trains, one is yours which moves when you submit a valid word and one is the computer which constantly moves but slower than yours.
Over the levels it gets harder to find words and the games vary and sometimes you have to make words from just three letters and use all the letters. I get really addicted t this game and canspend hours on it. I never get a really good score but love playing it.
Other games I enjoy are action games which you have to make your character do a series of tasks for customers for them to go up a level. You then get to buy extra items with your earnings you've made from customers. There's loads of different games within this like hairdressers, hotel, cafe and much more.
Overall I would say that this is a good site for games but personally I think it's over-priced for the kind of games you get to play. I hav used this site for a few years now and I'm used to smaller screens to play and the advertisements so I don't think I will be subscribing in the near future
Summary: Good fun to relax with fun and not serious games

- 04/08/09 I visit this site quite often - I agree that the pricing for the games and the funpass are, shall we say, a bit 'steep'! |
