As someone who enjoys trying new things, I am very open to trying flavoured lubricants as they add something different to the bedroom without changing things up too much. My boyfriend and I have tried quite a few of the Durex lubricants so when I spotted the Pina Colada flavoured one in Boots last week, I had to snap it up immediately! You can only imagine how happy he was when I told him I had a new flavour for us to try! Luckily, we had a weekend away last weekend to celebrate my birthday so we had plenty of time to test it out without being interrupted.
The Durex play lubricants all come in very similar bottles, although I've seen two different designs for these over the past few months. The bottle of Pina Colada lube that I have is just a regular plastic bottle with a pump on top, although you can get it in a more sleek, sexy style bottle that is rounded at the top and bottom, with a narrow waist. I'm not sure if Durex are phasing one design out or what, but the bright colours of the labels will ensure that you don't pass them by on the shelves! The Pina Colada flavour has a bright yellow label with white font and accents. There are tiny pineapple images on the label and the Durex Play logo is firmly printed on the front. The back of the label shows the ingredients, directions, company contact information and warnings but as these are all printed in white, they can be somewhat difficult to read on the yellow background.
I'm told that this particular lubricant can be used with all Durex condoms and is suitable for oral, vaginal and anal sex whilst remaining smooth and non-sticky. It does however also warn me that this lubricant is not a spermicide and will not prevent pregnancy.
To release the lubricant from the bottle, you simply twist the pump to unlock it and gently press down on the pump. This will dispense a small blob of clear gel and you can instantly sense the sweet, fruity aroma drifting out of it. I'd like to point out that the Durex lubricant pumps can be a little hit or miss and you sometimes need unscrew the cap and dispense the lubricant that way. We haven't had that problem with this particular bottle, but it seems to happen more often than not with Durex lubes.
It's worthwhile mentioning that this lubricant is clear to prevent staining the bedsheets!
As with all flavoured lubes, I gave it a little taste off of my finger before fully introducing it into the bedroom so as not to be unpleasantly surprised if it tastes bad but this one was very sweet and fruity so I was eager to use it! Although I wouldn't describe the taste as exactly like a Pina Colada, it did have a likeness to Malibu and pineapple juice - one of my favourite things to drink.
As this is a flavoured lubricant, it's main purpose is to be used during oral sex so I pumped a little onto my boyfriend's penis and smoothed it over with my lips. It felt smooth and I couldn't detect any stickiness but after a few minutes or so, it started to feel slightly gluey. The taste was still there and there was no chance of the lube disappearing with my saliva, but it was starting to feel unpleasant in my mouth due to the texture. I carried on until he'd finished and by then everything was just a bit of a sticky mess so we headed for the shower.
A little bit later we decided to see how it felt during vaginal intercourse and again, ended up feeling sticky and gluey within a couple of minutes so back to the shower it was! It did feel nice and smooth for the both of us to start with, so if you're having a quickie, it might be good for that but otherwise, we were unimpressed.
I can't comment on how it would hold up during anal intercourse as we don't participate in that.
This lubricant can be bought in a 50ml bottle from Boots for £3.49 and can also be picked up in chemists and erotic stores. A little does go a long with this so if we had enjoyed it I'd be happy to say it was good value for money, but due to the stickiness we won't be reaching for this one first and therefore I have to say it was a bit of a waste.
I can't fault the taste of this lubricant at all, and I think it's great that it doesn't stain however the claims of being non-sticky just aren't true and for that I can only give this lubricant 2 stars. I'd only recommend this if your man doesn't have much chances of lasting more than a few minutes as by that point it is too sticky to enjoy!
Thanks for reading!
I am a massive fan of the Durex Play range and I regulary buy their cherry lube as it's absolutely lovely, despite how odd that sounds! I'm sure most people will know what a lube is used for, but to briefly explain, it's used to make sexual intercourse much more comfortable, with it easing any dryness and it also helps get the guy in the mood, lol. I don't have a problem with discomfort during sex, and picked this up purely out of curiosity. Me and my friend slash new almost-boyfriend Sean were in Superdrug over the weekend having a nose at all of their sexual health products and having a bit of a laugh (immature I know!) and we came across the pina colada lube, which I have heard of before and used a while ago, but it never appealed to me to buy it again as it wasn't anything special and I can remember it having an odd and "unsexual" (is that a word?) kind of flavour/smell. Despite this though, I decided to give it a go.
We were buying the cherry one anyway and decided to try this, as the Durex lubes are currently on offer at 2 for £4.99 or 1 for £3.99 so for an extra quid I decided it was worth a go! The lube can also be bought from other shops such as Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Boots, Ann Summers, Amazon, eBay etc and it averages at £3-£4 for a 50ml bottle which I don't think is too bad as a little does go a long way.
This lubricant comes in the usual pump bottle which has got the Durex logo on and then the world 'play' in white writing, making it clear that this product is part of the Durex Play range. It has a picture of a pineapple and coconut and the packaging is bright yellow so it is very eye catching and it is also unisex which I think is of huge importance as i've had past boyfriends who refused to buy lube in pink packaging! With yellow packaging it's not quite as embarrising for a self concious guy to buy. Because of the slim design of the bottle it is definetly more attractive looking than the big bottles of lube and also easier to store discreetly in the bedside cabinet, and the packaging is overall practical, eye catching and convinient.
Opening the bottle is easy - I simply twisted it, as instructed on the back of the bottle. I then squeezed out a 10p size blob and massaged on my hands to ensure it was nice and warm - it warms up quickly and is quite firm in consistency meaning it doesn't feel oily or greasy (it does have a slight 'gooey' texture though), and once it was warm enough I applied it onto Sean. I am obviously not going to go into any more detail, however I will mention that he didn't feel any discomfort from this lube, nor did I - no burning, redness or itchiness at all. The 10p sized blob lasted well and we only needed to reapply it a few times in 30 minutes or so which I don't think is bad as some lubes don't last for very long at all. The lube washed off reasonably well but did leave a lingering fruity smell on my skin and the bed sheets.
I was a little worried at first that the smell and taste would be a little overpowering when it came to oral sex, however it wasn't at all - the taste is sweet and quite fruity but not overlly sweet, so it doesn't taste too fake or OTT. The smell is really nice and smells just like pina colada with the pineapple bein very prominant - it's quite a feel-good scent if that makes sense and made me feel all summery, lol. With most of the other Durex lubes I have found them to be quite sickly however this wasn't, an on inspection of the bottle I can see that it is sugar free which is probably why! It is also alchohol free incase anyone is wondering!
This lube can be used for masturbation, oral sex, vaginal sex and anal sex. It is water based and so is more skin-friendly, and it can be used with or without condoms. It does not contain spermicide and does not act as a contraceptive measure. Overall this is an unusual lubricant which is nice for a change. It's cheap and does its job well so I can not really fault it.

I've previously reviewed sexual lubricants from the Durex Play line before, and have always had relatively good experiences so when I spotted the pina colada flavour in Boots the other day, I jumped at the chance to try it out! As you can imagine, my boyfriend was more than happy to agree with my purchase and even offered to pay for it, what a nice guy.
A lot of people are still very close minded about lubricants, assuming that they are only for women who suffer from vaginal dryness, whether it's due to menopause or just not being aroused enough but this is not the case. Lubricants are a fun, easy way to add a little spice and flavour into your sex life, this one in particular is simply for a tasty flavour whilst performing oral sex, but can also be used as a regular lubricant for intercourse.
As always, the lubricant comes in a very sleek looking plastic with a spring pump on top. If you've read my other Durex lubricant reviews then you'll be well aware of my gripes with the spring pumps Durex use, but if not, let me explain!
While a pump is the best way to dispense the product inside, the springs tend to be relatively flimsy and have been known to snap or stop working. If the springs stop working, the pump stops working. If the pump stops working then you have to remove the cap to get to the product. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me, but have you ever tried re-screwing a cap onto a bottle with lubed up hands? Not much fun.
Don't get me wrong, the pumps aren't going to break instantly, but just be warned that they aren't the most sturdy pumps around.
The bottle is yellow in colour with a small pineapple on the front, perfect for summer. We're also told that this is suitable for use with oral, vaginal and anal sex and can be used with any Durex condom. This is a water based lubricant, so it should be suitable for use with all condoms but I guess Durex have to watch their backs when assuring people it's good with all condoms. There is a small warning that this is not a substitute for contraception and any extra information is available on durex.com.
Luckily the pump worked the first time (and still works to this day, touch wood it stays that way!) and I managed to dispense the perfect amount of product onto my hand for the activity we intended to use it for. You're instantly hit by a sweet, fruity scent and although it doesn't smell exactly like a pina colada, it is most certainly a tropical, holiday cocktail scent. There is no colour to the lubricant whatsoever and it promises to leave no stains (on the skin or the sheets).
As it's a water based lubricant, there is no oily residue but it does feel relatively slimy. Thankfully they've got the consistency just right, it's not so thick that it'll be difficult to spread over the desired area, but it's not runny enough that it'll just drip off.
I gently massaged it onto my boyfriend's penis which eventually lead to tasting it. I was pleasantly surprised that it tastes better than it smells! Durex have managed to get the perfect blend of coconut and pineapple whilst still managing to make this sugar, calorie and fat free! A guilt free cocktail, heavy on the cock.
We haven't used this for vaginal sex as we tend to stick to the tingle lubricant if we use one, and we most certainly haven't used it for anal sex as that is a one way street for me!
Although Durex claim that this is isn't a sticky product, it certainly does leave some sticky remains so you'll need a good shower after playtime, but that isn't much of a problem for us.
Neither of us experienced any discomfort or irritation whilst using this product, so that's a big plus!
Durex lubricants can be bought in boots for £4.28 for a 50ml bottle and can also be found in Ann Summers and similar sex shops.
I highly recommend this lubricant to anyone that wants to add a bit of fruity flavour to their sex life, or anyone looking for a guilt free pina colada, you won't regret it. I will remove one dooyoo star for the flimsy pump as although it still works, it definitely doesn't feel like it'll last long!
Thanks for reading.
I've never attempted to write an "erotic" review before and by that I mean a review that falls into the erotic category rather than an erotic take on something considering relatively un-erotic like a lawn mower or a pair of shoes (although in the past I have been known to get rather excited about shoes)! However I finally decided it was time to stop being such a prude and to share some of my experiences, albeit without too much detail going in there as well!
I don't know any of my friends that don't like to use a lubricant every now and then, if not all the time. Apparently personal lubricants have long been recommended to women to improve the comfort of intercourse and to reduce any tearing (sounds painful)! Men have been found to say that it heightens pleasure for them as well during intercourse so really using a lubricant seems like a win win situation! The basic idea behind lubricants, especially when talking about using them in industry, is to reduce friction between moving services. Obviously that sounds rather technical when you're talking about bedroom activities but the premise is the same - it's meant to reduce friction at the time of intercourse to make everything slip and slide a little easier.
The Durex Play range is made to heighten the pleasure of intercourse in a fun way. Their lubricants offer to ease dryness and intimate discomfort while creating a "sensual experience." The Durex Play Pina Colada Intimate Lubricant is advertised as proving "a little taste of tropical holiday heaven in your bedroom." It's also advertised as being smooth, tasting sweet and deliciously fruity as well - the fruit bit sold it to me as anything associated with fruit must surely contribute in some way to my five a day?! It comes in an attractive and bright yellow bottle which has the brand, range and product name shown very clearly on the front. The bottle contains 50ml and is about four inches tall with a frosted plastic lid that sits on the top. Overall the packaging is just as I'd expect - it looks easy to use, fun, the bright yellow colour made me feel summery and (importantly) non embarrassing when you take it to the till to pay!
To dispense the lubricant simply take the lid off and press down gently on the pump dispenser, the first time you use it you'll find that you need to pump down five or six times to activate the pump but after that it flows out really easily. I find two or three pumps releases more than enough lubricant, although this will vary depending on what you're doing or who you're doing it with if you know what I mean! The lubricant is clear in colour and is quite runny, you do need to be careful or it'll end up all over the bed! It smells absolutely delicious and very sweet too, it really reminds me of pina colada with the coconut and pineapple scents being the strongest.
Here's the important information for you, the pina colada lubricant is sugar free (which means you can eat away without worrying about the calories... and believe me it really does smell good enough to eat), it's safe to use with all Durex condoms (I'm sure it's safe to use with all condoms, they just couldn't resist getting that semi threatening advertising point in there), it's easily washed off (in case you get in a mess like me) and it won't stain (which is great for any lightly coloured bedding or anywhere else you choose to use it)! The only claim I'd have to argue with is the claim that it's non sticky as sadly this isn't true, it is a little sticky - especially when you end up with it not only on you but on your bed, your clothes, etc. as well! The stickiness does disappear after a while but it's one of those things you'll be desperate to wash off after use.
I've had my bottle for over a month now and I'm really happy with it, it's certainly replaced my other bottles due to the delicious smell and the summery feeling it gives me! It's currently priced at £4.28 in Boots for a 50ml bottle (it's also on a two for £10 offer although if you're buying two lubricants it's not exactly the most economical offer I've come across). I absolutely love this and would thoroughly recommend it, just don't get addicted and start drinking it in place of a regular pina colada because you're too lazy to make one and this one is sugar free!
Thanks for reading!
Play Pina Colada is a little bit of tropical heaven.
