Russell Hobbs 15207 Steamglide Iron
by Mama-Q
For the longest time in my marriage we went without an iron. Simply put we didn't have the cupboard space even for an iron (I kid you not!) never mind an ironing board. Then we moved to our 2 bed flat before my son was born and there was an iron and board in our hall cupboard - no need for us to buy our own, yet again. Then of ... course...we moved again. This time to a completely unfurnished house. So, as you do, we headed to Amazon.co.uk to get ourselves an iron.
In our searches we came across this Russel Hobbs iron - knowing the brand name and reading the reviews I decided to go with this iron. Many people said they'd had their irons for a long time and hadn't had any trouble with them. I also liked the fact that it released steam from the metal plate on the iron and released water from the bottom of the iron grip handle. To activate this you simply fill up the iron the 'max' (indicated on the purple hard plastic part of the iron.) This will hold 280ml of water - more than enough for an ironing session or three. The iron comes in a purple and white colour which is pretty stylish.
As for delivery it didn't take long at all - two/three days max. Cost was just under £15, with free delivery in the UK (always a bonus.) It came packaged with instructions but to be honest these aren't needed if you've ever owned an iron before.
The iron plate has a non-stick surface so if you happen to burn something onto the iron it will come off with a damp-ish cloth (can you tell I've done this before?). The power cord stretches to 2 metres - plenty cord to get round any corners. Also the bonus is that this iron is 'self clean' which I can't claim is true or not although in saying that the hot plate of the iron always seems impeccable. 22000 watts of power (again, I have no idea what this means!).
So onto the steam usage: you can actually use this iron vertically to get wrinkles out of curtains or other materials that you might not be able to reach with any other iron that doesn't work vertically. I haven't used this feature so I can really report back on this but it's interesting to note this. Another plus I've enjoyed from the iron: no drips! So many other irons I've used drip water onto clothes and then leave behind that tell tale manky water mark that looks like dried in chalk. The iron heats up really quickly, within seconds, so this is handy when you're in a rush.
Overall I would say, yes, this is a 'cheap' iron but it doesn't feel like a cheap one. If you do experience any problems with this iron then there's always the 12 month manufacturers warranty to fall back on ;). Read the complete review |

Russell Hobbs 14995
by daddyumyum
I will start by saying I have this innate ability to destroy an iron within a week of buying or being given one, either by dropping them or by hand of god style acts! Now this iron has survived for almost a year and it has been dropped (on more than one occasion), man handled and has been slobbered on by a dog with amorous intensions! ...
The iron has a nice feel to it and when you hold it doesn't feel too heavy or cheaply made. It has a good weight to it even without water in it. It is very easy to operate (as are most irons) and has one dial which you twist to increase or decrease the heat intensity. There are also two buttons and a slider on top of the iron, for controlling the amount the iron steams (the slider), to give and extra boost of steam (the left button) and to give a spray of water (the right button).
The iron does come with a filling jug for the right amount of water. It also does have a nice long power cord so you don't have to be kneeling down by the socket and moving the item you are ironing instead of the iron!
I have found the iron to be nicely robust and definitely worth the price tag (currently around the £50 mark). I managed to pick up mine for half price at TJ Hughes and paid £25 plus as a bonus it is purple so my partner loves it too! Read the complete review |

Morphy Richards 40668 Steam Iron
by Marie234
I recently had to purchase a new iron because my old one was becoming un-reliable and it kept leaking all the while! I purchased the Morphy Richards 40668 Steam Iron from comet for £27.49 which is fairly reasonable! It's so much better, it doesn't leak, it's definitely reliable and best of all its anti-limescale! ...
Specification:
This fantastic product is a steam iron,
it has a whopping 400 ML water tank and
it's only 1.5 KG in weight!
Features:
Unfortunately, this iron doesn't have an auto shut-off feature and it doesn't have an anti-calcium cartridge which is really annoying because most other irons do! But on the other hand it's still a brilliant product and its very reliable!
Design:
Even though it's a good iron, I don't think the design and colours are very appealing. Pink, black and white don't go very well with each other and to be honest the shape isn't the best either!
The average customer rating for this product is 4/5 which is very good but if I had to grade it I would award it a 3/5 because of the design but I would give it a 4/5 for how good and reliable it is!
It's very helpful for getting to those awkward spots on your clothes and for getting the creases out! The shot of steam is dedicated to helping you get those very awkward creases out! The 400 ML tank means that you don't have to keep re-fillings in-between ironing!
Recommended for people who iron regularly and for people with who need a good and reliable iron! Read the complete review |
