Advantages: Great value, high quality.

Disadvantages: Pretty much none for the money that I paid.

I purchased this steam iron exactly two years ago this month (July 2008) from Tesco for the affordable price of £29.99. I was moving into my new flat and I had an itinary of stuff that I needed. Unfortunately, it was a big list and an iron was on it. I was used to my standard university issue, really bad, non-steam iron from my student accomodation - any upgrade was going to be an improvement. However, this iron has been absolutely wonderful for the money that I paid - reliable with excellent quality all at an affordable price.

What really pleases me about this iron is its simplicity. It has got an easy-to-locate cap for pouring in water (to create the steam) and there is also your standard issue 'maximum-minimum' dial for controlling the heat (you can change the heat of the iron depending on the material that is being pressed) This iron presses materials excellently and once you keep the water levels up, the quality of ironing stays very high. It is important that the water levels stay high in order to create the desired steam - but this could be said of any steam iron.

There isn't many bad things to be said about this iron really. If, for instance, you have a really resistant piece of material or there is plenty of creases in a shirt - it can take a couple of ironing sessions to remove them. This is rarely the case to be honest. Also, the lead that connects the iron to the plug socket is a little short - this can be overcome, however, by the use of an extension lead. Minor issues to be honest.

I think that I have gotten a great bargain for this iron at £29.99. It has lasted wonderfully for two years under great duress (I do plenty of ironing) There hasn't even been so much as a blown fuse. This longevity and value, combined with the great quality of the iron, represents an excellent purchase for anyone looking for an effective iron on a budget. As I was searching through the different makes and models, I was actually shocked at some of the prices. You can pay well over £100 for a big-branded, top of the range steam iron with all the bells and whistles. I just think this Morphy-Richards model does exactly what you would expect from a really good quality steam iron at a fraction of the big brand cost.

One issue of note - there are 75 different Morphy-Richard irons on DooYoo alone - this is model number 40662. I think you might struggle to find this iron on the high street now. I would say that your best bet would be to try somewhere like Argos first and if you have no luck, go online. I can see in front of me that electricshopping.com are selling it for £22.98 (even cheaper than I paid!)

A definite recommend. Can't speak highly enough of this iron!!
