Baby Gro's, baby vests, baby trousers, baby tops, baby shirts, husbands shirts, husbands trousers, husbands T-shirts, oh yes and don't forget all my clothes. Sound familiar to anyone, if you've got children then it probably does. Iron can be such a drag, can't it? I'd always hated it, it was my most dreaded household chore. I put it off until the basket was so full with clothes that I simply HAD to get some done. Then everything changed. My husband bought me the Morphy Richards Comfi-grip Professional 42400, the main reason being that it was white and green (I have a thing about the colour green at the moment). The temperature control dial is very easy to use with a shaded area for the temperature range where the steam can be used and filling the water tank is done at the top of the iron. From the moment I first used this ironing I actually started to enjoy doing it. I found the iron to be very light and extremely smooth. It quite literally glides over any material. The soleplate of the iron is just the right size, not so big that you can't control it, and not so small that it takes forever to iron a baby vest. The features on this iron are pretty universal but I shall run through them anyway. Temperature indicator light. Obviously this light comes on when the iron is warming up. Once it reaches the desired temperature the light goes off. Dry Ironing. Although this is a steam iron it is possible to use the iron as a dry iron by setting the steam to the 'off' position, it is possible to use the spray feature whilst using it as a dry iron. Steam Ironing/shot of steam. Basically this lets you shoot a shot of steam out of the base of the iron onto the item you are ironing, this is excellent for getting out stubborn creases. Variable steam. A switch on the top, front of the iron allows you set the steam from low to high. No drip system. This I find to be fantastic. W
ith my old iron water used to drip out of the soleplate when the iron is too cold. This system prevents this so you don't end up with water everywhere when the iron is cooling down. Cleaning the iron is very simple. The iron has a built-in cleaning system which is supposed to keep the water valve, steam chamber and steam vents clean. This is the 'jet clean' and is supposed to be done after every ironing session. Basically all it involves is ensuring that there is water in the tank, putting the iron on its heel and turning the temperature right up. Once the iron has heated right up, you have to un-plug it and hold it above the sink (I just hold above my living room floor) and pressing the shot of steam button 10 times in a row. After this you simply empty out the remaining water in the tank and put the iron away - total time about 30secs. I have discovered that it is essential to do this 'jet clean' otherwise when you use the shot of steam feature during your next ironing session you will end up with bits of lint and loose mineral deposits on your ironing. The instruction booklet that comes with the iron is very easy to understand with several diagrams to assist you. It is quite short but very compact with all the information you need for your iron, including the 2yr guarantee. The main disadvantages with this iron are it does not have a non-stick soleplate and there is no anti-scale system. The latter would be very useful where we live as we have very hard water. However, I could certainly recommend this iron to anyone replacing their current iron, or buying their first one.
I used to hate getting out the iron as it is a womans worst nightmare! Searching through our local electrical store I came across the Morphy Richards Turbo steam iron at a good price. The iron has many features including a temperature control dial, temperature indicator light, water tank cap, soleplate, spray button, shot of hot steam button and a steam off button/variable steam. The water tank can hold two beakers of water. The special beaker is provided. the vertical steam facility is very handy, this means that you can steam a garment which is hanging up,curtains or wall hangings. Most irons that have the steam function are not as good as they are supposed to be but this iron does the job well and makes the job of ironing easy. I have two children a husband and myself,I must say mount everest has turned into a road bump!! Thanks morphy richards.
