... consulted the retail 'bible' once again (otherwise known as Argos to you), examining the choice of Philips irons that were on offer. I also had a brief glance at the other brands too, but did not see anything that appeared significantly better than the Philips models for the same price. The Philips models ranged in price from a very reasonable £16 up to a whopping £58. To my thinking £58 appeared to be a lot to pay for an iron - would it really be twice as good as one priced at just under £30? I thought not,...more

Ironing is one of the household chores (sorry - I meant to say tasks) that does not come under my remit (thankfully.) When I left home to begin my first job, after leaving University in 1993, I did what any self-respecting person would do and bought myself an iron. This was necessary as I cleverly anticipated that the un-ironed student 'look' would not go down too well in my new place of work. Thinking back, I don't think I put much thought into my original choice, and probably opted for one of the cheaper models out of the Argos catalogue.
