I bought this iron 3 months ago to replace an old steam generator which had given up working. It was expensive to purchase, but having used a steam generator previously I knew how good they were, and Phillips is a brand you can trust.
Anyway the box was delivered and it was time to clear a huge backlog of ironing. This is a big piece of kit, I have a large ironing board with a large tray for the iron which is lucky. Anyway, plugged it in and filled up the water tank using the jug provided. Firstly really easy to fill and the tank is large & takes a big amount of water. Just lift lid and pour in (my old generator had to be switched off & release the steam bit like a pressure cooker - was a nightmare).
Anyway onto the ironing, massive amounts of steam, very lightweight to handle, very quick to heat up and the results are amazing. It really does cut your ironing time in half, if not more. I can iron jeans in moments, only need to iron on one side it is so powerful. Cotton sheets and bedding, no problems - it literally whizzes through the ironing. A job I always hated is now no longer a chore.
The only downside; bulky to store, the clip which you store the cable on is flimsy and falls off all the time, and it is intermitently noisy when in use - but overall I would still happily recommend this steam generator.
Got this iron just over a week ago, I'm not one for ironing, have never had much luck with my last iron and seemed to put more creases in clothes than I got out of them.
Used this iron for the first time yesterday and it was so easy to use, I did a whole load of my children's clothing and was amazed at how lovely it looked, even denim was easy to iron, just had to go over things once.
The base is quite bulky so needs to be put on a big enough surface to ensure safety, the iron is easy to hold and you can press the steam button easily when you need the steam.
Would definitely recommend this to anyone who does not like ironing (or who is not good at it like me).
Can't wait to do the next lot of ironing, my daughter will be the smartest kid in school and I won't have to worry about her taking her jumper off as her t-shirt will look nice instead of creased like it normally is.
Definitely worth the money. Excellent
I love this iron, it takes me half the time to iron my huge pile of ironing.
It heats up in about 2 minutes and you are ready to go.
I have found that it is best to lay the clothes out flat on the board as it makes it quicker.
It is a bit noisy and quite steamy and my friend has said it steams her glasses up but it is worth it for how good the results are.
I only have to iron one side of the garment which saves so much time.
My friend bought a blouse over for me to iron, it had been in the bottom of her ironing basket for ages as it was so hard to iron, after using my steam generator on it, it looked like it was new.
I highly recommend this product, I don't know why I didnt' get one ages ago.
like alot of mums of 3 children i always dreaded the daily ironing, until i bought this iron, it truely is amazing, my ironing time is now halfed, just one sweep over the garment and it is done, usually you go ocer it 3-4 times to get rid of the creases.
i actually enjoy doing the ironing now, and would you believe this, my fiance marc argues with me over who does the ironing because he loves the new iron that much too.
my mum brought a bed sheet around last week that she used to use for the guest bed room in her house but the creases would not come out so she couldnt use it, when i told her about the steam iron she brought the sheet around and was amazed, infact we both were, as all the creases went straight away, and the sheet is now looking fabulous back on the guest bed.
i never thought i would enjoy a iron so much.
deffinately worth every single penny.
Brilliant bit of kit - so far it has performed faultlessly and has made ironing much easier. As the previous reviewer said it is especially good on things like denim - also linen etc. The steam generator gets up to pressure quite quickly - about 1 minute I would guess, and you can fill it up easily and it doesn't need filling often. The only minor criticism is that the clip on the side which is meant to hold the cable for storage is far too flimsy and falls off easily.
We are much less happy with the Vileda ironing board we bought at the same time. The tray for holding the steam generator is only just strong enough - it springs up and down a bit. Also the sponge under the cover seems to get wrinkled up very easily - my advice would be to put as much effort into choosing the board as you do the steam generator iron. I think I'll take the board back.
I've been lucky enough to own one of these for some time now and I wouldn't be without it.
there are several reasons why i bought it this particular iron -
i suffer from a bad back and the process of ironing did not help especially as my husband and 2 daughters live in heavyweight jeans
i worked in a charity shop for some time and my main job was to steam all the clothes so i was introduced to vertical ironing
i hate ironing and wanted an appliance which would make the job easier and less tedious.
i've bought other appliances from philips and have always been pleased with their products
i paid just under £100 for it which might seem expensive but to me is worth every penny.
it's a heavyweight item because of the station but it stands permanently in our utility room so is ready to use anytime - no lugging around ironing boards.
the water capacity is 33.81oz which means you can do a washer-load of clothes just by filling the tank once with the plastic funnel provided by philips. (i think i used to have to re-fill my regular iron about 4 times)
the wattage is 800 so you get a really good steam which can be varied by turning a clearly-marked dial.
the cord is very strong and can be neatly tucked away - i wish it was just slightly longer though.
instructions couldn't be easier - you just fill the tank, allow 5 minutes to heat up and off you go....
i bought the special ironing board to go with this system (has more air holes in than a regular one) but i never use it as i've devised my own system to do the ironing quickly and efficiently.
i pop all the clothes that need ironing onto coathangers, hang them up and vertically steam
i fold double sheets & other linen and steam these horizontally
- it now takes me 1 hour a week instead of 2 to do my ironing which is about 3 loads.
it's fantastic for doing teeshirts that have prints or logos on them as it's relying on steam rather than heat to de-crease the clothes.
doing jeans is no longer a big hassle because of the steam pressure.
it is great to use for heavyweight or silk fabrics - no faffing about with the small dials usually found on small irons.
as stated in my introduction i couldn't do without my philips gc7230 - worth every penny!
* have had to include 'battery talk time' for dooyoo but it doesn't allow you to make calls!
Created to speed up ironing from start to finish, GC7230 is ready to use in 2 minutes / Pressurised steam power speeds up ironing by penetrating deeper into fabric and the extra-large water-filling funnel allows fast & easy refills anytime / Short name: Philips GC7230
