A steamy encounter
Author Name: superness11
Advantages: eaasy to use
Disadvantages: small tank
I was spending a lot of money on dry cleaning so I decided to look at a product that would help to refresh my suits between taking them to the dry cleaners. I wanted to spend less money and spend less time going to the dry cleaners. Unfortunately I do not an assistant or a boyfriend that will pick up my dry cleaning!
I was spending around £30.00 a month on dry cleaning, which works out at around 3 suits. I thought that if I bought a steamer, I would be able to reduce the amount of money I spent a month by at least half! Wishful thinking maybe....
Well actually, it wasn't wishful thinking and I am really pleased with the steamer and the results. It is perfect for using at home or for taking away on trips as it folds up really small. It is perfect for getting rid of creases in items that have been crumpled in a suit case and it is much gentler and safer to use on clothes than an iron.

I paid £34.99 for the steamer and I bought it from Amazon.
The steamer is shaped a bit like a hair dryer. At the bottom is the cable that hooks up to the main supply. The main body is shaped to fit the contours of your hand and at the top is the steaming head. You can select the heat setting you want that will suit the fabric the best; there are three to choose from. I use the medium setting for most items that I steam.
The device is light and easy to hold and comes with a travel bag for storing it in.
The steamer gives up to 15 g of steam per output and there is a removable water chamber that can take 55ml.
Push-button activation provides a continuous spray of steam until you take your finger off the button, meaning you can steam a whole piece without stopping if you want (assuming you don't run out or water).
Because it's designed for travel, it is light and has dual voltage capabilities; this makes it ideal for travel as it is adaptable to low and high currents.
There is a lint brush attachment that is supposed to be used when steaming clothing, however it is advisable to remove this is you are steaming knitted garments. It's main function is to remove lint but it could pull at delicate items.
Steaming knit garments can be a handy way to gently get the knit fabric into the size and shape you want. Steaming in this manner can be accomplished with the steam from your iron but the handheld device is much more practical to use. For one thing, this device is a lot lighter than my iron and the steam is more concentrated.
I have had much success in steaming suits and it really does give items that extra lift and freshen them up. The device is really easy to use and as it only has three settings, you cannot go wrong. It works on a variety of fabrics but some are more stubborn than others. I have a very thick cotton suit that needed a hand in getting the creases out. I had to concentrate the steam more in certain places and spread the fabric out with my fingers and then give it a good blast. It did work which was great but it just took a bit longer!
The main downside to the steamer is that the water chamber is so small. The device uses a lot of steam therefore it goes through the water pretty quickly. This is a pain as you have to refill it often. I can probably get through a couple of garments before having to refill it. Despite this, the device heats up really quickly and it is faster than any iron.
I like the fact that the device can be taken abroad, it is small and light and does not take up too much room in the suit case. It is a quick way of getting rid of folding creases in items that have been squashed in a suit case. It is much more fun to use than an iron, who wants to start ironing on holiday! Also if you take a travel iron away with you, you are not always guaranteed to have the use of an ironing board! At least with a steamer you can simply hang your clothes up and get to work!
For the price, it is definitely worth the money. I enjoy using it and find it successful .
Summary: A great little item
