Russell Hobbs 14993 Xpress
Advantages: Irons most clothes well
Disadvantages: Struggles with heavy duty cotton
Unlike my mother who will happily iron underpants I am not a big fan of ironing so it is important when I have to iron I have a comfortable iron that does a good job.
The Xpress is a nice weight for me at 1.2kg which is not too heavy that I get a sore wrist after a mountain or ironing nor too light not to get creases out. It heats up pretty quickly which is good as I am not that fond of ironing so want to get the job over with quickly.
It is not cordless but the long cord means that it can be set up in most places in my home easily. This is important as I do like to iron with the tv on. The handle is a nice shape and easy to grip. My husband is left handed whilst I am right handed and we both find the iron easy to use however it would be nice if my husband used it more often!
I find it irons most clothes easily. In general the iron does do a good job of my blouses and is easy to manoeuvre around buttons, frills etc. It also does a good job of sheets and my husband's lighter cotton shirts. It works well on most of my husband's shirts although it does need quite a lot of steam and I frequently use the steam shot with his heavy cotton shirts. This means the iron does need topping up with more water. The tank apparently holds 250ml which does look a lot but I would suggest you keep a small jug of water nearby so you can top it up.
A disadvantage of this iron is that it is sometimes difficult to see the water indicator when topping up. Another disadvantage is that for badly creased clothes the water spray on the iron doesn't really do enough so I have a plant mister nearby to spray water over these items to make them easier to iron.
The iron is self cleaning so ne need to fuss with cleaning which is a big plus for me as I hate irons which require special cleaning. I have had my iron for several years now and it still works well.
Overall I would recommend this iron as at around £30 represents good value for money although if you frequently iron lots of heavy cotton shirts I would suggest getting an iron with a big more oommpf.
Summary: Good iron for general ironing
