I don't particularly like ironing however now I have a job where I am required to wear shirts and ties, I need to iron my shirts. When I was at university, I managed not to iron anything at all! I bought a mid ranged iron, not too cheap and not too expensive as I felt this would provide me with the best possible ironing solution.
The Russell Hobbs Slipstream Iron is made from plastic and it has a blue colourway which looks smart and masculine! The iron provides 2400 Watts of power so again it nestles itself mid range in the selection of irons. The wattage is strong enough to tackle most laundry items. It is not by any stretch of the imagination industrial but it manages a laundry from the home well enough. The blue plastic frame supports the stainless soleplate which is sleek and smooth to ensure that it glides over fabrics. The iron has a reservoir of 300ml for steam and squirting and this is transparent so you can see how much you have left in the tank. The large size means you can manage a whole ironing session without having to fill up.
In terms of features, this machine has variable temperature and steam settings which allows you to control the steam output and heat. Some fabrics need more heat and some need less; my work shirts are stiff and need a lot of heat as does my linen shirt however my t-shirts don't need as much and in fact too much heat can damage the print. In terms of steam outage this iron has a capacity of 35g/min steam output and 95g shot of steam. The burst of steam is good for stuff shirt collars and other areas that get really dry. This iron offers a powerful vertical steaming facility so you can go blasting things around the house. This makes it ideal for removing wrinkles from fabrics, curtains and from hanging clothes quickly and easily, without having to take them down.
The iron has a button which generates fine mist water spray and this can be used to dampen extra dry areas. In terms of cleaning the iron includes a self-clean function with anti-scale agent to prevent the build-up of scale so this will lengthen the lifespan of the iron. It also has an anti-drip mechanism to prevent water leaking onto garments and a 360º swivel cord that reaches 1.5m. This is an excellent iron and it is a good choice for £29.
