A neat looking iron which does a lot

I really don't mind ironing and find it quite therapeutic, however maybe this is because I only do it once a week now as there are only the two of us and also I do tend to favour clothes that I can just take out of the washing machin, put on a hanger to dry and then pop straight back into the wardrobe. My previous iron was a Tefal which had lasted me for well over ten years so was definitely good value and I knew they were a good make so I was more than happy to get another one.

I had looked online and had decided on this Tefal Superglide FV3680 so started to look round to see where I could get it at the best price which was at Asda as it was only £26.95, compared to £27.99 at Currys and £34.99 at Homebase and Argos. It is purple and white and has an ultraglide ceramic soleplate which really does seem to glide across your ironing and I find that I don't have to use hardly any pressure as I seemed to have to with my previous iron. The soleplate is said to be self cleaning and has a double anti-scale system which is good to know.

The water tank holds 270ml of water which is fine for me as I don't spend too long at a time ironing, but I would think that if you had a family basket load of ironing to do, you might have to re-fill it a few times. I have always found that one tank is enough for me with some water left when I have finished, however I do always empty it before I put it away and re-fill it with fresh water the next time I go to use it. Tefal claim that you can fill it up in four seconds which I have not actually counted, but the hole to pour the water in is quite large so it is easy to fill without spilling any and it is at the front of the iron which makes access to it easy. It didn't come with a container or funnel but I just use a small jug which I keep with the iron.

The cord is 2.5 metres long which is a decent length and I have had no problems with it reaching my ironing board whichever room I decide to iron in. It weighs 1.3kg which is quite light compared to some other irons and it is 2200 watts. The handle is wide enough to hold comfortably and it has a wide heel at the back which keeps it stable when you stand it up and is also useful for winding the cord round after use. The dial to set it to your required heat setting is located underneath the handle and is easy to turn.

It is anti drip and it gives a high output of steam and you can also direct a shot of steam which is good if you have stubborn or deep creases which just won't iron out completely. When the iron is on steam a constant stream of water is released which cuts down on your ironing time and helps makes your clothes look smooth and creaseless. I find that the shot of steam will smooth out almost anything without the need to have the iron on maximum and you can just use it when you need to. You can also use it for vertical steam which is particularly useful for curtains and also items on a coat hanger where you just need to remove a few creases. You do have to be careful when doing this though as the steam is obviously boiling hot, as I have experienced when holding the arm of a dress out with one hand and holding and directing the steam with the other.

I am very pleased with this iron and I can say that it has made my ironing easier, as it seems to move very smoothly over my clothes and the steam is constant and even. It heats up quickly and does everything I need an iron to do. I am sure that it will last me for a very long time and I think it was very good value for the price. It comes recommended by me and completely deserves its five stars.
