Tesco IR06 Steam Iron
My boyfriendis currently doing a pgce teacher training course, and as part of his course he spends two days a week in a local secondary school. Naturally, it's important for him to turn up to work looking smart, with a freshly ironed shirt, in order to set a good example for the students.
As we prepared to iron his shirt ready for his first day of placement, it became clear that my iron, which had been mainly left in the cupboard for the last couple of years, did not want to work. With it being 7pm and the majority of local shops being shut, the easiest solution was to nip along to Tesco , which has a large electrical section, and grab an iron from there.
I picked out the Tesco Value Iron, which cost just 4.97. It was a few days before payday, meaning we were trying to make out last bit of money stretch, and I figured if it wasn't great I could buy a better iron when I got paid.
It's fairly attractive looking, mainly white with a translucent pale blue panel that loks quite comtempory in design, and allows you to see the water level inside the iron . To put water in, you pour it in through an opening in the nose of the iron - the opening is quite small, so I think you ideally need some sort of funnel or narrow lipped jug to get the water in without dripping it everywhere. This iron has a water capacity of 130 ml.
The controls arew pretyt simple, with a twisty dial on the main body of the iron allowing you to select your power settings . For an additional burst of steam, there is also a button on the nose of the iron near the handle .
This iron does take a littlw while to heat up fully - I tend to just leave it for 5 minutes to do it's thing . Actually ironing with this is very easy, as it just glides over the clothes, but this iron does have quite a small ironing surface, so ironing takes a little longer to cover the area . There is power indicator showing when this is on, and the cable is a decent length. Cleaning this is a simple matter of wiping own the plate after use.
Overall, considering this is a budget product, it does the job fairly well . I'll probably be upgrading to an iron with a bigger plate in the future just for the sake of speed, but , for its price, I'm, hard pressed to find anything to moan about with this.
