Avon Sparkle Jewellery Hanger
by purplekimmy
I have always loved these; I collect them, not to be used as a jewellery holder, just because of the dresses and designs these come in. I have bought these from many shops and paid from £1 to £40 for these. I paid £8 from Avon and didn't think that was too bad a price.
It comes with a black figure hugging dress, with ruffles ... at the bottom covering the base. The dress fabric is very soft; sometimes with items like this it can be quite stiff in order for it to hold its shape, no such problem here.
The detail is nice, silver flowers down to the ruffles, which each have a silver edging to them. The jewellery holding parts themselves are fairly sturdy, I wouldn't hang anything on these that had any real weight to them as I don't think it would hold up very well but as an ornament, which is the reason I bought mine they are fine. They are better I think for hanging earrings onto or thin light bracelets than heavy items, I also think that putting too much jewellery on them hides the dress and spoils the look. The picture has just enough jewellery to look attractive yet practical. Its a very attractive item and good for ladies of all ages, makes a nice gift. Read the complete review |

Avon Sparkle Jewellery Box
by purplekimmy
I do not know where Avon got the sparkle from with this jewellery box, I think they may have forgotten to include it. I saw this in the catalogue and thought it would suit my daughter for her birthday as all teenage girls love to feel grown up with their own jewellery box. She had well and truly grown out of her old one with the dancing ... ballerina every time you opened the lid. I bought her this as it looked smart and quite posh in the book.
When I took the box out of the packaging box (possibly the best part of it) I was a little disappointed. The actual box itself has a fake snake skin effect to it and although it looks ok, there were bubbles in the material on the top of the box; there is a buckle effect also which hold the lid down and the bottom flap up. This looked tacky and not very well put together. After opening the top, the inside lid compartment has a ring section with the ruffles that allows you to put your rings in, they had been glues together too much so you couldn't actually slip anything in between each ruffle. The grey inside fabric was a nice colour and contrasted well with the black outside. The mirror inside was ok (yes I am trying to find nice things to say now). The drawer was a disaster as well; it has a material bow that you use to pull the drawer out with. One the first time of opening it fell off leaving a huge dob of glue which was clearly useless in holding it together. The inside of the drawer section was coming apart and the material had not stuck down very well, there were bubbles and before long it would all peel off.
I paid £12 for this which was a lot of money for what it was if it had been in perfect order, the fact it wasn't, it was far too much. I returned this and got a refund and bought her one from Argos. It was cheaper and made so much better than this one. Read the complete review |

Avon Butterfly Shaped Trinket Box
by purplekimmy
I bought this trinket box as a present at the same time I bought a picture frame with the same butterfly design. I bought them as a present for my daughter as she loves butterflies and dragonflies and I thought she would love these. Thankfully I ordered them both early enough to be able to deal with the total disappointment of the gifts, ... send them back and still buy her different presents.
I have reviewed the picture frame on here and now it is time for the trinket box. The picture in the catalogue I saw showed a beautiful butterfly with purple tinged wings, a delicate shine on top of a small butterfly shaped box. What actually turned up with a thin, cheap and tacky looking butterfly shaped bit of metal on top of two halves of a butterfly box. I know that the broken effect was not part of the purchase so would have returned it anyway. The butterfly itself looked nothing like the photo of it, it was the same shape and had purple parts to it but it looked like something you would see and walk past in a Pound Stretcher store in your local town centre. The lid didn't seem to fit the box, I don't know if this was due to it being broken or not but I was not impressed with its quality, ignoring for a second the broken aspect of it. The materials used to make the butterfly were very bad, so thin and no care or effort used to make this.
I paid £5 for this box and would not have paid this if I had known how terrible the box was going to look in person. I did send both items back and requested a refund which I received. I would advise people to steer clear of this box, it looks pretty but looks can be very deceiving. Read the complete review |
