I bought one of these for my nine year old daughter because although its not the kind of thing that I think many adults would choose to wear, it is something that I felt would appeal to a little girl. It cost me £42 from gift.co.uk which I felt was a little on the steep side for a kids necklace, but at the same time, it is 9 carat gold and I thought it would be special for her.
To order it was easy directly on the gift.co.uk website and on this website I was able to spell out how I wanted her name to appear. You can have up to ten letters and so it would be fine for most kids names - and as my daughters' name is "Lauren" then it is okay for her. I don't really think there should be a limit on the number of letters that you can have in a first name - although, like I said, this would cover most names. It took 48 hours to actually arrive through my letter box.
The necklace came in a little red velvety box and the necklace was inside. Her name was spelt out using swirly letters and then there was a swooping line underneath. The chain was a link chain and was about 50cm in length which allows the name plate to come down and sit nicely on the central decoutage. There is a link-style clasp that does up at the back of the neck. The chain feels a little flimsy and I suspect that, at some point, the chain is going to snap, but the actual nameplate seems quite sturdy.
To be honest, I thought the design looked a little cheap and cheezy - but the important thing is that she didn't think so. Its certainly not the kind of thing that I would buy for anyone except a little girl.
As Im the oldest out of all the children in my family I dont often get presents from my little brothers as they are too young to know what I would like and they obviously dont have very much money so you can imagine how thrilled I was when on my 19th I found a little gift box from my little brothers. As it turned out my mom had actually bought the present but I thought it was so cute that my little brothers had picked it out and I was delighted when I opened it and it was a personalised name necklace. I have wanted a name necklace for years - dont ask why I get so fixated on such a little thing - so I was over the moon when I got this last year as it is something I had wanted for a really long time. Ive barely taken this off since I got it and Im happy I can finally review it for all the rest of you Dooyoo'ers :).
Price: £42 - which might seem like quite a lot but if you wear it as much as I do it is totally worth it.
Stockists: There are a lot of variations you can get of this necklace but mine personally is from thebrilliantgiftshop.co.uk
Other Info: The name can be up to 10 letters - it costs the same amount whether it was a 4 letter name or 10 so it makes no difference either way. The chain length is around 45 cm overall which is more than enough for me as its fitting without been tight or having too much of a drop.
So obviously depending on the letters in your name and the length of your name everyones name part will look slightly different. Mine personally says 'Sally' which is my name and it has the lettering in swirly lettering with a small underline in a twirl underneath. Its not the most amazing design but it is cute and Im always getting comments on it with people saying how nice it looks. The design is so simple yet classy in my opinion and because of the quite simple design it matches with everything and can be worn on a daily basis to literally everywhere. The chain itself is really thin and you cant see the links in it at all to me its like a flat gold chain - Im sorry I cant describe it better than that but if you saw it in reality that is exactly what the chain looks like.
There is the usual link at the back to attach it round your neck which is easy enough to put on and take off - I usually find necklaces too fiddly to put on myself but with this one I dont have a problem so that adds a great advantage for me. The only issue I have with this necklace is the part that links on the letters - it keeps getting stuck around the S - obviously most people wont have this problem and it is easily sorted - if you dont have an S at the start of your name you wont have any problem at all. As I said Ive owned this for nearly a year now wearing it pretty much every single day and there is no wear and tear on it at all so it is made of very high quality 9ct gold and storing it when your not wearing it is easy as well. I tend to just put this in a jewellery case and it has never become tangled or knotted - and Im not really careful with my jewellery so storing it is simply as case of putting it in a box and you should be fine.
I love my name necklace - thanks little bro's - and I wear it all the time. For me this has sentimental value but at the same time it is a classic design and definitely one of my favourite pieces of jewellery. Some might sya the price is a little steep but as I get so much wear of it I think the price is totally justified and I highly recommend it to everyone. A gorgeous piece that I hope to be wearing for many years to come.
Thanks For Reading.
