“ Brand: Animal Aid / Type: Necklace „
Putting the finishing touches to the presents I had decided on for my family this Christmas was something I really loved doing. I usually buy main gifts pretty much along the lines of what they have suggested to me, but always try to purchase several items that are complete surprises, and which as far as possible reflect their interests and the things they love.
My eldest daughter is a Veterinary Surgeon, and this career path was no surprise to us as she delighted in spending time with animals for as long as I can remember. She had guinea pigs in her bedroom from the day she started school, and as she had to gain work experience for her course, all through her teenage years we would drive her to farms and stables. We even bought Molly our dog as an aid to her being at ease with all pets including dogs, and today she has her own golden retriever which accompanies her on her daily work as she trundles around the fields and farms of Wales.
For the above reasons it isn't hard to find gifts for her that reflect her love of animals, and this is how I came to purchase the Crystal Paw Necklace from the Animal Aid Website. I love this charity as you know that your purchases are going to help animals that are being abused or neglected, and they work tirelessly to try to improve animal welfare standards. Their website can be found at www.animalaid.org.uk and their gift shop at www.animalaidshop.org.uk. I never hesitate to purchase them from as they do so much undercover work which identifies horrific scenes of cruelty, and campaign tirelessly for change within the field of animal welfare. Their main website houses a video library of recorded cruelty which I have to say I find terribly upsetting. It really makes you stop and think what goes on behind closed doors in some establishments whether you are a vegetarian or otherwise.
The necklace has a delicate sterling silver chain which measures 18" and the paw measures 1.8cms across so is also very intricate and subtle. The paw itself is made from silver plate and has clear Swarovski crystals; it sparkles when it catches the light and looks really pretty. I knew my daughter would love this as most of the time in her line of work she wears very little jewellery, and so she enjoys being able to look more feminine when she gets the chance to go out and socialise.
The necklace is presented in a simple box and retails on the website for £10.15. As well as the silver the necklace is also available in other colours- pink, purple and black and there are also earrings to match the clear and the pink variants, allowing you to create a matching set. I didn't do this as my daughter does not have pierced ears.
The overall look of this necklace is simple understated and dainty and it has the advantage of going with everything.
One disadvantage of the site is that the postage charges are staggered according to how much you spend and orders over £10 have a shipping charge of £3.50, which for something so small and lightweight is a shame. It didn't worry me as I wanted some other items, as it they have a lovely selection of toiletries that I use. It also came to my attention recently, through an excellent review by Dooyoo member Dawnymarie that it is here you can purchase the very ethical toothbrushes and shaving razors made from recycled plastic by Preserve. I can highly recommend these.
Whatever you order will arrive really well protected and in good time, and I have had excellent service from the charity when ordering from them in all aspects from beginning to end.
If you are looking for an inexpensive gift for an animal lover, and you wish to support this very worthwhile cause, then I can highly recommend this necklace. It is pretty, delicate, well made and has been worn many times by my daughter. She tells me it has become one of her treasures!
