“ Brand: Avon / Type: Jewellery Box „
I do not know where Avon got the sparkle from with this jewellery box, I think they may have forgotten to include it. I saw this in the catalogue and thought it would suit my daughter for her birthday as all teenage girls love to feel grown up with their own jewellery box. She had well and truly grown out of her old one with the dancing ballerina every time you opened the lid. I bought her this as it looked smart and quite posh in the book.
When I took the box out of the packaging box (possibly the best part of it) I was a little disappointed. The actual box itself has a fake snake skin effect to it and although it looks ok, there were bubbles in the material on the top of the box; there is a buckle effect also which hold the lid down and the bottom flap up. This looked tacky and not very well put together. After opening the top, the inside lid compartment has a ring section with the ruffles that allows you to put your rings in, they had been glues together too much so you couldn't actually slip anything in between each ruffle. The grey inside fabric was a nice colour and contrasted well with the black outside. The mirror inside was ok (yes I am trying to find nice things to say now). The drawer was a disaster as well; it has a material bow that you use to pull the drawer out with. One the first time of opening it fell off leaving a huge dob of glue which was clearly useless in holding it together. The inside of the drawer section was coming apart and the material had not stuck down very well, there were bubbles and before long it would all peel off.
I paid £12 for this which was a lot of money for what it was if it had been in perfect order, the fact it wasn't, it was far too much. I returned this and got a refund and bought her one from Argos. It was cheaper and made so much better than this one.
The Avon Sparkle Jewellery Box is a rehash of a popular item that Avon sell most years. I was anxious to order one of these in plenty of time for my Christmas Party as I knew it would be a popular item to demonstrate. As a representative, I am always pleased when we get Avon own brand gift items to sell as we get commission for selling these. Brand name items that are sold through the Avon brochures come with such a small discount that we barely cover our costs for supplying them to customers.
I had hoped this would be an item I could show off and really promote to all my jewellery loving customers but unfortunately I was in for another disappointment with this (there have been a few recently).
I thought this was nice when I first took it out of its black gift box and looked at the exterior. It has a kind of fake snakeskin feel to the material and is a nice size too. The buckle that does up the lid is very cheap and tacky though which is the first detail that put me off this item.
Then when I looked inside, I found a scrap of material in a sort of bow shape for the draw pull and just could not believe how cheap it looked.
The material is not even completely flat in places inside this jewellery box and there were little blobs of glue here and there all over the inside of my box.
This is a cheaply made item that you would expect to buy from Tesco for £4.99 for your 13yr old at Christmas so she feels mature. This is not worth £12 and would not impress most grown women that I know.
Much better value is the Sparkle Jewellery Hanger and the Sparkle Manicure set was also lovely (though only really worth £3 or £4 rather than the full price £6). The other parts of this collection are lovely gifts, but this is one to avoid.
